Was Paul Young's Joy Division cover a hit?

I see that every major Paul Young compilation features his (mediocre) cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart". I don't recall this being a hit in the U.S. Was it big elsewhere?

I know it's off the "No Parlez" album. I have that and 1985's "The Secret Of Association" album. Not bad at all really, but I lost interest soon after that.

I never knew he did that ! Is it any good ? Didn't he generally do a lot of covers ? "Love of the Common People" was a really likeable (well ok, by me) song; good stuff.

Yeah, he did mostly covers. I remember he cut a version of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over" too. I think he started writing his own material after the first two albums and that's when I bailed on him (lol).

well, it didn't chart in either the US or UK, it's probably included on his comps because it is a recognizable song. it is a lousy cover, though.

I also heard that the remake made the band members (and one band member's surviving family members) more money than the original release ever did for them.

So there can be a silver lining to even suckey cover versions. [:D]

I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down was also a cover version by Paul Young.The original was by Graham Parker,and was done much better by Parker.100% better by Parker I would say.I only liked Paul Young's first album No Parlez,after that he went downhill bi
