I'm not very happy with the "1977-1982 The Complete Jam" DVD though! - not a very satisfactory quality. Lots of footage glitches! (or is it just my copy?)[V]

weller's always been a bit of a drama-queen though!
friend of mine bumped into him during the jam's heyday: he was at a gig selling a jam fanzine, and paul welly comes up and just slags it off calling it "rubbish"...
he's always been someone i've been into (bought "in the city" on cassette in 1977 and everything since until "heliocentric" which was crap) - but i'd never want to meet him, oh no!!!
he has a point though, the music biz is full of sycophants, it makes a refreshing change to hear a high profile artist actually say that the boomtown rats were never that good, or that maybe just maybe sting's stuff is a little too self-indulgent? [}:)]

If what he said about James Blunt was, ahem, blunt and disparaging then I agree with Mr Weller wholeheartedly, James Blunt is the new Joshua Kadison......and yes, that is not a good thing.

I always agree with everything Paul says. He was one of my big heroes with the Jam. But he tends to be a huge hypocrite - not a capital offense mind you. All his output after the Jam was very "pleasing", which isn't to say it was edgy at all. And what did he want to do? Bring soulful jazzy music to the working classes? Uh, dude, Motown and many others did that already. "What a twat" Freddie might say. Weller made good adult pop rock all throughout the 90s, criminally neglected in the US, and it was all nice and good, but don't be a twat and be the pot calling the kettle black when you're very best stuff was long ago with the Jam...IMHO of course!

I saw Paul on VH1 classics a few months ago. I love his music,
but I have to say his personality was not what I expected. I don't care either way. That man has put out some great music. [:)]

I met Paul Weller in 1994 after a show, and I could tell he was in a pissy (american usage) mood, because of how he was treating the sycophants around him. so I said to Paul "great show, almost as good as Verve" An icy stare told me he didnt think this was as funny as I did. but at least he didnt hit me. that being said he does have a point about the people he slagged.

I'm going to start and use the term "Rubbish"...
