...I think were the only songs besides the one you mentioned that held up to repeated listens with me. Bernard Sumner's voice is like nails on chalkboard to my ears, so a New Order song had to have one damn amazing melody for me to put up with it. Suffice to say, not a whole do. But Electronic's "Getting Away with It" has them all beat. It struck a chord with me in ways New Order's and Joy Division's music never did.

There is a legitimate import CD out there of Warsaw, what Joy Division was calling themselves before Joy Division with a much more raw sound to it (I think these recordings have come to be known as the RCA Sessions?). Anyway, off this collection, "They Walked in Line" will always be my favorite by them, no matter what you call them.
As for New Order, "Love Vigilantes" is always my favorite, so I highly recommend the "Low Life" CD.

Good to see ya Skinny! There's some confusion about Warsaw, The Warsaw Demos and the RCA Demos. The way I learned it, The Warsaw Demos and its 5 raw, punkish tracks are the band as Warsaw in July of '77. The song Warsaw is not among them though. The RCA Demos were released as the bootalbum Warsaw-The RCA Demos and recorded in May of '78 while they were properly called Joy Division. It has 11 tracks, none of which overlap with The Warsaw Demos but do include "Warsaw" but the not "3-5-0-1-2-5-go!" shoutout version on An Ideal for Living. Some bootlegs combine the 5 Warsaw tracks with The Warsaw Demo tracks while some combine The Warsaw Demo tracks with The First Peel Session tracks.

It was always confusing to me, and still is, Blir. I just know that CD (which is an official release) replicated the LP I had (which was of dubious origin). I'll never know which is which, but that version of "They Walked in Line" is priceless!

Heh, I guess I was as clear as mud. [:I] That is indeed a great track but it's not Warsaw the band. As raw as it is, the 5 Warsaw tracks are even more raw: Inside the Line, Gutz, At a Later Date, The Kill, and You're No Good to Me. These are the only Warsaw (the band) tracks. Your CD might have them if they decided to add them to the 11 Joy Division tracks from the RCA Demo, but these are not part of that demo. Oh, and The Kill is nothing like what's found on Still - almost a different song.

Just as an example, here's the brutally crude No Good. Amazing that this has anything to do with Blue Monday. The evolution is just fascinating!

I like all of their stuff. And I know they are the ones a lot of people pick but I have to say "Blue Monday" is my fave NO song and "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is my fave JD song. I wasn't a big NO fan until I got Substance 1987. It blew me away! One of the best Goodwill finds ever!
