Time for another edition of...
"Which one of these songs is not like the others? Which one just doesn't belong"

Men Without Hats - I Got the Message
Elvis Costello - Alison
Clash - Clampdown
Devo - Jocko Homo

Three of these songs have something in common that the fourth doesn't. Do you know? If you do, PLEASE DON'T POST THE ANSWER! Give the others a chance - in the meantime, just post a [;)] if you know it. Pretty obvious when you get it... I think. I'll check in after the weekend.

Happy 4th!!

Rewind - now you've got me intrigued! Do either of the possibilities seem obvious (i.e., a good trivia question)?

Has anybody else figured it out yet? Where are all the resident mavens??? I'll post the answer in a day or two.

(Drum roll begins...) Alison-Elvis Costello [?][^] (violin begins...)

No synths used in Alison.

I don't think there were synths in Clampdown, either.

I'm going to guess that all but Men w/o Hats were recorded BEFORE the advent of MTV.

Good guesses, but not the answer... the answer is a bit more "specific". You might want to focus on the lyrics [;)]

Who will be first to say "I got the message and the message is clear"? Rewind? EchoBeachBunnyBoy?

Well my two possibilities were:

1. Men W/O Hats - "I Got The Message": it's the only song that was also released as a 12" Remix (2 different remixes, in fact).

2. Clash - "Clampdown": it's the only song originally off a double album (London Calling)

Well my guess was that the Men Without Hats, Elvis Costello & The Clash lyrics all dealt with the subject of settling down (wife, husband, marriage, etc.)
The Devo song was about not conforming.
That's all I could come up with...[?]

Again, good guesses, but there is a pretty specific answer. Here are a few clues:

- Check the lyrics
- Three of the songs mention something in common... and it's pretty specific
- The answer is Clash - "Clampdown"... can anybody guess why?

Aha!!

Each song, except "Clampdown", namechecks the album title by the respective artist!

Men Without Hats: Rhythm Of Youth
Elvis Costello: My Aim Is True
Devo: Q: Are We Not Men, A: We Are Devo!

Good one!!!
