Mr. BMG will listen to New Wave music, but it's certainly not his favorite type of music. He listens to Motley Crue, Metallica, Ozzy, etc. He is a pretty big fan of The Cure, however, and I'm to blame for that [:)]
It's cool, though. Music is HUUUUUUGGGEEE part of both of our lives, and he is as passionate about 80s hair metal as I am of 80s pop and new wave. We mostly tolerate each others' choices, but neither of us give the other much grief because we know how much that music means to each of us.
The only thing I love that he hates with a passion is Fleetwood Mac. I hate the really heavy stuff he likes, so there's an unwritten rule that when we're in the car, we won't subject the other one to the Mac or whatever--because when we're in the car, there's no escape!
We compromise. He's going to go see Depeche Mode (let's just say he's not a fan) with me in April. I will go with him to see some sucky rock band. And I won't complain. Out loud, anyway.
I think it's fine to be married to/with someone who doesn't like the same stuff you like. I'd have a hard time, however, being with someone who isn't into music like I am. I wouldn't be able to relate to them at all.
