"I had to let you know"

"I had to let you know"

Postby hexicon » Tue Feb 14, 2006 2:05 pm

So, I'm trying to recreate this mix tape a friend gave me in the summer of 1985. I haven't had any luck identifying one of the songs, though my memory may be somewhat faulty. I had always assumed this song was by the Divinyls, but when I checked allmusic none of the song titles seemed to fit. Also, I didn't have any luck googling the lyrics.

It's a very spiky, frenetic duet, with the female starting and the man singing the next verse
I knew when I met you I could not forget you
I knew I had to let you know--ow--ow
Knew that it was you-hoo, hit me with your voodoo

Never let you go, had to let you know, etc.

Hi Hex.

This is probably off the mark, but the lyrics sound a bit like the old Cole Porter song "Do that voodoo that you do so well..." Apparently Adam Ant, Sinead O'Connor and Bryan Ferry all do versions.

The Cole Porter song is titled:
"You Do Something To Me"

Thanks--it's not Cole Porter.

P.S. That "Red Hot & Blue" AIDS benefit CD of Cole Porter cover songs is amazing. Novelty stuff from Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop . . . straightforward covers by Sinead O'Connor, Annnie Lennox, kd lang, etc.

Plagiarism, we have a winner. At one site I note that this is referred to as "Siren (Never Let You Go)" so I'm sure this must be correct. Who'd get "Siren" from those lyrics?

But it's not on iTunes [xx(] . . . anybody? (Hint, hint.)

Unfortunately, I only have the LP, and no way to rip MP3s from it. [:(]

It's on the Divinyls compilation CD "Make You Happy 1981-1993."
