Who had the best new wave live show?

Back in the day, who gave the coolest live show. I mean great music, great stage show etc... Duran Duran was up there. Who else?

I think Ultravox, OMD and Gary Numan had always great lights and sound.

What's with my favourite band the FIXX ? Did someone saw an early concert?

Ditto on Gary Numan. The sound quality was great, the songs were all hits (if you were a Numan fan), and the presentation was 100% Numan. I haven't been to one of his more recent shows, but I hear bad things (mostly about the playlist and music style he's recently adopted). But back in the day, great stuff.

I saw The fixx 3 times and although I liked them and they put on a good show, it was never anything spectacular, 2 times at smaller venues and once in 83 opening for Flock of Seagulls at an outdoor venue.

Back in the 80s I was a bit more closed minded than I am today. I only went to punk shows. Best one I ever went to was Bad Brains. A girl did manage to drag me to a Depeche Mode show once. It was a pretty impressive affair.

I also have to admit, I loved Gary Numan's bit in Urgh! A Music War. Nothing cooler than driving around in your own little space car during a gig!

I had the pleasure of being in third row to witness first hand Mr. Gary Numan driving around in his space car back in the day.

Don't forget three costume changes and his musicians playing in huge towers.

That was the best new wave show I ever saw.

Fast forward to the future -- I saw Gary again, and it was very disappointing. Seemed he was trying to impersonate the very same bands who wanted to emulate him.

Well Kate Bush one live tour in 79 was impressive on video, but being 8 years old at the time I could hardly afford to fly to England to see it. Let alone know who the hell she was at the time.

Best New Wave show I saw? Without a doubt---Nina Hagen!

Devo could always be counted on for a terrific live show.

Madness was a huge disappointment (my buddy and I were expecting lots of nutty music to moonstomp to and all night they played nothing but ballads).

And one of the best shows I ever saw was Joe King Carrasco at Club Lingerie. The place turned into one big mosh pit.

Numan's current stage show is more traditional, but hardly disappointing. It would be impossible for him, physically and financially, to put on shows like Micromusic today. He has said that he willingly lost something like $200,000 putting on the Teletour, because he wanted to give something back to the fans.

If Mr. Numan really wanted to give the fans what they want, he'd drop this industrial rock thing he's doing, and return to making some great electronic music. If I wanted irritating noise, I'd be listening to 9 Inch Nails.

I love Joe King Carrasco - that's exactly how I imagined his shows would be.

The B-52s were a blast live - all the stupid dances, great sound & lot's of dancing in the audience.

I saw U2 tour for the Blood Red Sky album. I wasn't very into them, but they put on an awesome show - no gimmicks, no pyrotechnics - just straight ahead music & Bono gave a great performance.

The best show I saw was Debbie Harry around 1989 for the Def Dumb & Blonde album. It was a smaller venue - she was wild, she looked incredible and she sounded great. It was everything I thought Deb shoud be. Unfortunatly, on her next tour, she was back to her old tricks of giving a more "stand, sing & be detached" performance.

Although I did not see a lot of new wave acts I still dig the 82 Boomtown Rats show I saw.All thier songs sounded like the lp versions
and befor he became Sir Bob and respected world wide Bob Geldorf was
cockey and vulgar on stage that night.The other thing I remember from that show is the drum kit was set up facing sideways,never saw that befor or since.
