Before there was Buster Poindexter, there was a great frontman named David Johansson (not sure of the spelling). Following his stint with the NY Dolls, David was the ultimate New Yorker fronting his own band in NY, NJ and beyond, with great original songs, and a self-titled LP. He did some cool movies, too with the likes of Richard Dreyfus and others. But who could forget his songs "Cool Metro" and "I'm a lover (well that's nothin new), I'm a cheater (I'll never cheat on you), I'm a fighter (I would fight for your hand) So let me be your man!"

Ironically I just found a used copy of "In Style" on CD today for $6.99. He used to play the small clubs in NY & NJ all the time before he got "Hot! Hot! Hot! (NOT!). He was great as David Johansen.

i always loved his song "Have You Heard the News?". cannot find it anywhere nowadays...sigh.....Stephen Rabow of KYYX, oddly, would slip it in between New Wave songs and i thought it fit in just fine !

The live radio broadcast is Johansen at his best (NOT "Live It Up", but a full concert broadcast from The Bottom Line). One of my few desert island discs.

I saw Johansen open for The Who at Madison Square Garden just a few weeks ago. Played for 1/2-hour, a few Dolls tracks and the rest from his 70s/80s solo albums. Still sounded great!

Jimbo, Johansson is actually doing his 70's/80's originals again? Wow, that is encouraging, in light of some of the weirdness that some artists have gotten into, i.e. David Lee Roth (Just a Gigolo), Linda Ronstadt (Torch Songs) and Joe Jackson's piano lo

I saw David Johanson perform (not as a Woman or a lounge singer) in the late 70's as the warmup act for Ian Hunter (Never Alone with a Pskitso Tour). He was awesome. Somewhere on tape I have a copy of the album that had "Funky but Chic" and I must say it
