What is your favorite record store of all time

then: Rainy Day Records in Olympia, WA. Featured all the coolest and most obscure new wave and import 12"s! Cassettes for only $ 5.99. Also, 4th Street Records on 4th Street in Olympia. Huge selection of punk and Euro/ British punk and wave. Intimidating staff, but they knew their stuff. Krist Novoselic from pre-Nirvana practically lived there.

now: not much anymore, but Albuquerque has Krazy Kat records, which specializes more in Oldies, but they've got a decent selection of everything. Charlie's Records is even better with more alternative and used CDs of all kinds.

This was one of my all time faves, unfortunately, I went back recently and it just wasn't the same...[:(]

In Arizona, every Saturday morning I would spend hours at Rockaway and Stinkweeds both of which still exist today and the original Zia Records back in the day was great, just not as good anymore though!

seems like all the decent ones are gone or slowly go, at least over here in certain european countries... one of my fave ones that is still around is sister ray in london. the music+vinyl exhanges in london one can also at times find really great stuff.
but as said, pretty hard to still find good ones...

I like a record store in Buenos Aires called "Revolution" that sells cds and vinyls. They've got a nice variety there... especially of albums that are not available here in Argentina (like No's Technique). The owner of the shop is really nice too, I sometimes stay there and talk to her.
There's also a record store called Abraxas that has a better variety of albums but at very high price.... I go and look there but don't shop.

And add for Cleveland Chris's Warped Music and Shattered (still there in some form) on the West side.

For Columbus, Schoolkids was the best. They even managed to get the Cocteau Twins to come to Columbus in '85 as one of only four cities visited on that tour.

The Record Vault I rember and there was a couple of more record stores on Height that I now have sadly due to age I suppose have forgot the names of.[8)]

Someone else mention Tower Records, I'm not a big Tower guy mainly because it is todays version of Rainbow records but I do like the Tower @ Bay and Columbus

The best record stores I've seen in a long while is Disc Exchange, a East Tennessee small chain. They have some of the most knowledgable and helpful employees I've ever come across, don't have any silly dress codes for their workers, has a good selection of new and old vinyl (although it could always be better), are ultra picky on the quality of their used cd's (thank God) and are great on special orders. It also has the old school record store feel. Very cool, indeed.

I've been to Mod Land & Last Record Store, and Modified Music is in SLC (if it's the one I've heard of), but where is Star Records? Or has it closed down?
