Blondie - Studio 54

Postby WolverineSyr » Sun Mar 26, 2006 3:49 am

I don't know where this song came from, or when it was recorded. Supposedly it was written by a couple guys from Duran Duran. I know Nick Rhodes was one of the writers.

Not a bad song. If anyone knows any details - post it here!

It was originally made in 1979 (what you have may be the original, or a remake. It's been years since I've heard it, so I can't swear on it, but my vote is for a remake), and Giorgio Moroder was the producer of the original track. It does have a very Duran Duran feel to it though, don't it? Whether Rhodes wrote it or not, I have not a clue.

Thanks Hutter, I was wondering when it was recorded.

It's odd that I didn't hear it back then as I was a monsterous Blondie fan.

No surprise. I have no idea when it finally showed up, or what release it was on. Supposedly it was originally rejected because it sounded "Too disco". Whatever. And I may be off on the year. My source is pretty reliable (my big sis) but she could'nt swear by it.

According the Katy at duranduran dot com, Nick Rhodes and Warren Cucurullo wrote a song of the same title, and if that's true, it would make sense that it would have to be post-1987 when Warren was with the band.

The song "Studio 54" from Blondie may date from as early as 1977 or 1978 that also may or may not have been re-recorded in the late 1990's.
For whatever reason the record company didn't like it (back it the day) and a song by that same name was shelved and not released.

I thought this story sounded familiar, but I was thinking of "Pop Trash Movie"

Rhodes and Cuccurullo also wrote and produced three tracks for the Blondie reunion album in 1996; due to shifting label politics, the tracks were not used, but one called "Pop Trash Movie" was later recorded by Duran Duran for the 2000 album Pop Trash.

Thanks for the track Wolvie!

Is it just me, or is "Bondie" missing a "L" in the thread title?

Thanks for posting that, Wolvie, (and for your email too[:)]). I like your description of yourself as a "monstrous" Blondie fan....as much as a "monstrous" Duran fan as I am, I didn't know about the existence of this tune until you brought it to my attention. Tiger_mn and IWantMyMTV are correct.

I really like it! Dense and swirly, mmm.

Here's another track written by Nick & Warren for Debbie.
Later recorded by DD themselves

Pop Trash Movie - Blondie

I'm not sure how correct the tags are, got it from a friend.

Enjoy!
