Parting With Your Collection

Since many of us are in our late 30's and more (43 here) what are your feelings about parting with your old vinyl? Do you really need to keep everything you ever bought? (and I have a lot.) It holds mostly nostalgic value to me. Once in a while I'll play something that I don't have on CD but what if I have replaced it on CD? Do I really need Joan Jett's debut album on the Blackheart Label if I have the CD reissue? Do I need all those 12" Duran Duran remixes and R.E.M. lps? Would I miss them if I still have a thousand+ to choose from? I'm hoping that someday my sons might enjoy my collection but if they don't it will be time to sell it off. They might not even want the CD's (thousands more still) let alone the vinyl by the time they are old enough. It just seems so painful.

I already sold my record collection once, only to buy back things that never came out on CD. My turntable gets as much use as my CD player. It's nice to have both. I have been selling CD's that get upgraded with remastering, but I will NEVER sell my vinyl

Nope, I have not parted with my vinyl collection. There are too many items that have not been issued on cd, so it is not worth selling off.

I've sold a lot of my vinyl over the years (and gave a lot to friends because I refuse to own a car so when people gave me a lot of rides I'd pay them in vinyl sometimes).

Since they're discovering "CD Rot" after as soon as 4 years that renders your CD's worthless I think everyone should hold on to there vinyl. I have about 80 gigs of mp3's stored on one of hard drives to back up after the rot sets in.
