You know actually probably the best thing that happened with Music in the 80s is how prominent women became-not just as eye candy-

The Bangles, Pandoras, Wednesday Week, X-Ray Spex, Go-Gos, Modettes-

were all mostly female bands-and our dicussion of Exene and Siouxsie just highlights how prominent women were

I'm afraid what passes for "punk" these days had gone back to a relatively macho guitar hero thing

Danielle Dax, Anne Clark, Personal Effects, Fear of Strangers, Map of The World, Lene Lovich, Salem 66, to name just a few more.......well, we all don't agree on new wave, but I am thinking the new wave period. Many many more to be mentioned certainly....

There were a lot of great women in New Wave, probably more than in mainstream rock at the time. I loved Lene Lovich, Poly Styrene, Joan Jett, Debbie Harry, Debra Iyall(Romeo Void), Terri Nunn, and so many other women in New Wave. I liked that none of th

There was also a book out in the early 80's called something like "Women in New Wave" or "Women and the New Rock"... I can't remember exactly.

Punk/NW also opened behind-the-scenes careers to women: photography, journalism, radio etc.
