I just got home from class and there's a slip here saying the post office has a package with postage due of $159 from an R. Gorman. Who could this be?!?! And what did this mysterious person send me? I can't wait to go to the post office tomorrow morning and find out!

ard to tell if these posts are actually going to make it up, but here goes...

I received a fine package from Randy yesterday with a new and as always excellent No Rhyme No Reason (Drinking Electricity sounds good!), a very interesting Tower of Babel (more info, please! where are all these artists from?) Der Plan's Gummitwist jumped out at me a catchy little pop tune, I expect that I'll put that one up on Otter Pop Radio at some point. And Now For Something Completely Different was certainly that. I always get a kick out of The Laughing Gnome and I know I recognized a few others. I can't imagine that's a comp I'd listen to much, although I don't think that was your intent.

And I've listened to the latest new music on Wolfe-Man Mix 7 a few times now, and like the majority of it. Sing-sing can do no wrong. The Living Things track is quite catchy and fun, although I thought it was the Dandy Warhols at first. Depeche Mode and Ric Ocasek still sound ace. Therry Stremler reminded me of Lloyd Cole, never a bad thing. Franz Ferdinand's second album is better than the first as a whole, I hope it was as successful, but I haven't seen a billboard chart in ages.
Honestly, the only two songs I really disliked were by the Stereo and Revolver Modele. The Stereo sounded too much like a bajillion other "alternative" bands and if you going to pull a cliche like dropping the instruments for a few seconds, you better have a better line than a cliche like "bring home the bacon." Revolver Modele's vocals were just too goth-mumbly Sisters of Mercy dated for me.
I really liked Morningwood's (what an awful name, though) Nth Degree, but not Televisor. Perhaps a one-hit wonder there.

First up--XTC--Another enjoyable mix. Couple things--Young Marble Giants--a band Ive never cared for much from the few tunes Ive heard--really enjoyed this one though. Maybe Ill look into them again sometime. The Bill Nelson material--great stuff--always liked him and have not yet got around to getting the reissues. Thanks. I also found myself really liking the Random Hold tune.

Otter--your right--And Now For Something Completly Different was just that--an odd collection of "stuff"--not expecting folks to love it OR hate it--but--I have not heard much yet. Let me know folks-really looking for feedback on that one and Babel, as I know foreign tunes are not always popular. Should there be a volume 2?

Thanks Otters! If those 2 songs are the only ones you didn't like, I can live with that batting average! I disagree with you about the song "El Scorcho" by The Stereo. That is one of my favorite Weezer covers! [:(!] However, I am still ambivalent about Revolver Modele...I can see where you are coming from there...I just stuck it on there because it is brand new and I am sure no one has ever heard of them (they are from Minneapolis by the way). As far as Morningwood goes...well thats just a cross us guys have to bear I guess...[;)]

I'm certainly interested in Tower of Babel 2. I like hearing the foreign tunes.
I think ANFSCD is the type of disc you listen to a few tunes and rip the tunes you like, but is not a collection you can just regularly pop in. The songs are either goofy and fun or unlistenably awful, and everyone will feel differently as to which is which. Do you actually like all of those?

That is a Weezer cover?!? I thought it sounded like somebody trying to sound like Weezer song, but I haven't listened to enough Weezer to identify it. I've always been pretty ambivalent about them.

ANFSCD-Do I like all the tunes? At one time or another I did, but not now. The comedy tunes I rarely break out, and other tunes I no longer care for--but own--so I share--such as the last 2 tracks and track 6?--cd not in front of me so thats a guess. However-a lot of the tunes I do really like-Zevon's being the best-and that and a few I still listen to often. One tune was my grandmothers favorite. One was my favorite when I was 9. One song came from a band that you introduced to me on Sing Otters Sing.[:D]

Babel--These songs I do love--had a friend years ago that I lost track of that travelled Europe and introduced to the gang at home some new bands. Lost most of those tapes and lps over the years-but-have found some of the tunes through the world of downloads. All 80's tunes other than the Nena/Kim Wilde remake.

Otters: Yes, that is a Weezer cover. The original is on their 1996 album Pinkerton. The ironic thing is that The Stereo's version of that song sounds more like Weezer than the original did. Weird. I am not a huge Weezer fan, but I do think that some of their songs are very, very good. Especially "Islands In The Sun", "Hash Pipe", and most of their first album.

The Dr Hook tune was very typical of their older material , and if you think of them only as wimpy balladeers--you've missed out. Back in the day-78 or so-they put on one of the most entertaining and side splitting concerts Ive ever been to!!

WOW, what a quirky disc! The only tracks I recognized off the "And Now For Something Completely Different" disc were the Ice-T and Tom Jones tracks. While I dug everything, my absolute favorites were Mosochism Tango, Dr. Hook, Fuck 'Em and Blow Me. I just love wacky and completely unexpected stuff like that! For the same reason, I just loved the Tower of Babel compilation. Zombie, Was Kostet Die Welt, Anyplace Anywhere Anytime, Bargeld Amore, Jogging and La Chica de Plexiglass ALL stood out to me.

Keep it coming! I love this stuff!
