Just got back from subway and by the register there sits the plastic tip cup. I have seen these for a while in chinese take outs but never at a national fast food chain. What is the incentive for tipping, the guy building the sub not hocking a big greeny on it? Does anyone drop a buck in these tip cups or not?

I only tip at sit down restaurants.

Same here. To have a tip jar at a fast food joint is just tacky.

The only fast food place I have seen a tip jar other is The Stone Cold Creamry.

Thats messed up.

You tip...the waitress. I think people are just trying to make as much money as possible.

I mean- waitresses....make tips....I dont see how you tip other people other than waitresses.
The way you tip the other people....is that you pay for the food.

I only tip the counter help if it's a realy hot girl. I just can't help it.

Waitresses make below minimum wage - that's why I tip them.
Bartenders make you stronger drinks if you tip them.
Pizza delivery guys are usually out on parole & know where you live - I tip them because I want them to be happy.

Fast food employees make minimum wage. I am not saying that's good enough, but no one was tipping me when I was standing behind a register. No, I don't pay attention to the clear plastic cup.

I do sometimes leave a tip at a local deli because everyone that works there has some kind of mental illness & I don't want them making my sandwiches with fiberglass or anything...

fast food places? no i wouldn't and don't tip

sit down meals with service? yes i do and 15-20% if the service is good and so is the food. if the service was great but the food wasn't i slip the waiter/waitress some money to keep to themselves. if both sucked then bugger them...they won't see a penny.

barpeople? depends on the place as I usually get in free and then get doubles for the price of singles! (as in a double vodka and diet coke for the price of a single vodka) However, if it's a place I don't know, then i ALWAYS tip the barstaff!!! We like and remember the high tippers!! I made £12.75 tonight in tips! I tend to be more friendly like to customers than to you lot though!

Hell, TJ, we're practically in the same business: Babysitting. Only my business doesn't serve alcohol. For some of my regulars, it would probably help their demeanor.

Being friendly does help. Took the in laws to dinner once, the waitress was very touchy feely always putting her hand on my shoulder and asking if we needed anything. A few times she even pressed her chest into my back and shoulder. My wife was pissed but she got a very nice tip at nights end. Her service was exceptional not to mention the extras.
