I'll start with Killing Joke's "Follow the Leaders". When I first heard it on KROQ, I remember thinking it must have been a great new track by Adam and the Ants. It's far superior to their all-too-common "Eighties" and has a great creative construction, crunchy heavy drums, kiler bass line, and defiant energetic vocals. A classic IMHO from 1981's "what's THIS for...!":

Follow the Leaders has a similar song structure to another Killing Joke song, Wardance. Wardance may be a bit more edgy, but good nonetheless.

And if Waver can post 2 than so can I.[:D] Call Me Blue by A-House used to drive me nuts (esp. the vocals) when I heard it on the radio, but it really grew on me after a while. The fact that it is just a touch over 2 minutes helps. It's over before you know it.

GREAT topic! I can think of quite a few songs, but I'm going to go with "Searchin'" by Cabaret Voltaire. It's from their "Groovy, Laidback, and Nasty" CD which was released on EMI in 1990.

By that point, even Cabaret Voltaire's core audience had lost interest, so when no one was looking, they made a contemporary (which at the time meant house music) commercial pop album.

I can't imagine that they would "sell out" after so many years, so I almost think they did it just to prove to their critics that they could have made well written (and surprisingly well sung) melodic, structured, commercial pop music any time they damn well felt like it...

..and apparantly, they could have. [:)]

Whoa!! Good for you, man!!! I've been a Zapp and Roger fan since I heard "Heartbreaker" on the radio for the first time back in '83 or '84. I've owned quite a few of their CDs (even going so far as to shell out big bucks for the Zapp III CD back when it was a Japan only release), but I've never heard the compilation you mentioned or "Maxx Axe". (Which I LOVE, by the way!)

Thanks for posting that track, and I would definitely be interested in hearing that LP if you upload it to your website!

Thanks, Hutter. I wish I could share the Zapp III CD with you, but I sold it off years ago after the "All the Greatest Hits" CD came out. Most of what I liked was on the compilation so I eventually sold off my orginial CDs. I'll check some of the p2p clients I download stuff off of and see if I can find anything for you though.
