The Nerd Outpost??

Let´s face it.. many of the NWO members are nerds.
So... I study Biology, write, like Andy Warhol and Fine Arts, Philosophy (Descartes, Plato) and French Poetry (Baudelaire, Rimbaud). I find enzymes fascinating and enjoy watching things under a microscope. That's pretty nerdish.
One of my biggest musical inspirations is David Byrne... and he's a UBER NERD.
I was never good at sports... never won a competition or anything. But I've had the best avarage in English since 3rd Form until I graduated. Teachers told my mum that my English was even better than my Spanish. I got an A in my Cambridge's CAE (Certificate In Advanced English) exam. And went to Math Olympics several times.

So... that sort of makes me a nerd. But I'm OK with it. I mean I'm not the nerd that doesn't go out and doesn't talk to people. [;)]

How do you explain me? I'm still playing sports (amateur softball) and played football for more years than I can remember, but I love plenty of so-called "nerdy" stuff. I wouldn't exactly describe the outpost as nerdy. We just have better taste than most.

Well, yeah it is...but I like nerds. My best friend from high school now has one of the most lucrative software bussinesses in the mid-west. My sister works for Microsoft, and my "smart" brother works as a translator (my other brother is just a twit). I'm the big, physical comic book lovin' underacheiving oddball in my family, with my handful of goofy stores. I hope y'all nerds can continue to tolerate me. I could have turned out just like y'all in a different life (some days I wish I did).

Nerd qualities? Hells yes.

me: honors student, academic league, and not really sporty at all. Good at fine arts. Incredibly shy, I didn't have my first real boyfriend til college, and prior to that, my one and only flirtatious experience with a guy was with a trenchcoat-wearing, comic book-collecting, poetry writing, uber geek himself. I adored him! (He had good taste in music, btw. VERY attractive quality.)

I'm okay at math and science, but not spectactular; however, I do have a fascination with astronomy. I dig science fiction, and think skinny, nerdy guys in glasses are HOT.

married to: big time Mac geek, impulsive buyer of electronic gadgets, fan of comic books and all things Star Trek and Star Wars. He's also a MMRPG weirdo too.

Not at all. The asians I've had the good fortune to have in my life (including my brother) always seemed to be well balanced, but highly intelligent (yeah, I know that's a stereotype, but a good one!) The only dumb asian I know works at one of my stores, but the retardation is probably gangha induced.

Eh, whatever. Nerd quotient is highly subjective. I find quite alot of "nerdy" subject matter to be rather interesting. Computer science, electronics & gadgets, good science fiction, etc. And I was never considered a nerd growing up. Alot of people want to label you a nerd once you're really into something that requries a certain amount of brain power. Could even be something like photography.

I was once called a "music nerd" just for being really into music. This one boggled my mind especially since alot of the imagery associated with music are youth, sex, fashion and fun. I guess being a collector makes you subject to some people's perception of "nerdiness".

I guess what I want to say is that labels are pretty much worthless. Those that use them, especially in an invectious manner, are some of the most shallow people I've ever met. And how insecure (and childish) they must be, to resort to name calling. Some of the coolest people I've met are "nerds". And get this: you could actually learn from them. I work in the fashion industry - really image conscious - but I tell you, I have no problem showing my own nerdy sides when I can.

I guess I agree. But I wasn't a nerd, more like a shy weirdo.
But I went on to get a black belt in Jujitsu and another in Aikido so I'm no nerd poster boy. But I do see being mistaken for one when younger.
