One night stands

Postby Casey » Mon Mar 27, 2006 8:56 am

Haven't posted in a long time... posting this here because most of you seem to be my age and I wanted some intelligent responses.

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on one night stands/casual sex with someone you don't know.

I wouldn't touch this topic, even with a seven and three quarters inch pole.

Sorry to hear that crummy story about your bf, Casey.

Years ago, I used to think the idea of one night stands was pretty skanky. I didn't have a boyfriend 'til college, and I thought there was no way sex was gonna happen until we were "exclusive". It worked for me for a long time, through having a few boyfriends. I just thought that if a person respected themself, then one night stands were an abhorrent idea.[xx(]

I grew up a lot, and my views about that have changed considerably. If the two are consenting, willing, and able, why not? What/ whom does it hurt? Altho I feel very strongly that a committed pair should stay committed to each other--no cheating--if two people are single, why not ? If the two both know and understand that it's just a one-night stand deal, and agree that it stays at that, then that's even better!

But again, only for the singles. Come on, cheating on your mate is the lowest.[:(!]

I should have put a [:D], I guess. Nobody needs to go to a hooker where I'm from. All you need is appallingly low standards.

safe consensual sex between two single people? i've done that...

i've had one night stands before now...okay i've had three. all of which were fun and i enjoyed!

it doesn't make me a slut or a 'loose woman', i feel safe enough in my own sexuality and comfortable enough in my own skin to share it with someone just for one night. sometimes sex can be just sex. don't get me wrong though, sex can be a LOT better when you're in love but sometimes a one night thing can be great.

always wear a condom though...even if you're in a monogomous relationship as certain STD's can stay dormant for a while. they don't protect you from STD's or pregnancy 100% but it's better to be safer than really sorry.

one night stands aren't always with a total stranger btw. my one night stands have been with people i knew already and am still friends with.

if someone brings up the self-esteem issue and how the people who have one night stands don't have any...i'll clout them!

Sounds painful. Either way, I don't think I'm that desperate for sex at this point. I could forego the want for sex if my choices were limited to ugly people. I suppose the hooker thing might have its "danger/rush" factor, such as not getting caught or the idea of approaching a stranger and paying them for sex because it's a bad bad thing.

I don't have problems with one-night stands every now and then, but I'd be lying if I were to say I wouldn't be shocked/mistrusting of someone who's had a lot of them (relative to their age).

I adore the chicks on this message board -- you're so intelligent and cool :)

Great points ladies!

Casey -- why was he telling you this though and how did it come up?

I hope it was either

A. One of those "let's get closer" talks

and/or

B. A health talk regarding concern about STDs/how many partners

because if he just brought it up out of the blue, that's kind of creepy ... I mean, god, nothing like killing a mood than hearing about who your current love was with before you.

Of course there's always others before you unless you're both 12 -- but there's a time and place to bring up everything. A funny ancedote about an ex, yeah, why not, but who wants to hear about a meaningless one-night-stand -- especially if there wasn't any punchline to the story. Not very romantic.

Does that make sense?

If you're in a relationship - no way. I wouldn't do it if I was just starting to date someone either.
When I was single though - whatever. Half the fun of going out was seeing where you'd end up in the morning. I never had a problem with it, never judged people for doing it.

I really don't like the idea of starting a relationship & still being non-exclusive though. I'm a one Weasel - Wolverine!

Wolverine, that was the cutest post I ever read here -- HA!

Great stuff!

Now I forgot what I was going to say ....

Oh yeah, it's interesting that guys get such a bad rap while there are soooo many out there who are honest and also monogamous (and I'm sure it's harder for a guy than a girl because girls are so pretty and intelligent and tempting it must be hard to settle for just one, heh-heh!)

Guess what it comes down to, everyone wants the same thing, but in time...

There's a time to be free and single; and a time to settle down. It all takes it's course depending where you're at in life.

Old people used to tell me to get married young because it's hard to meet people when you get older.

I feel the opposite. When you're young, not many are interested in marriage -- I'd get, what, one proposal every few years.

The older I get, the more marriage proposals -- like two in one year!! (or maybe it's the saying, you get better when you get older?)

There's always someone for everyone that's why it's so easy to give up on jerks. I love that old saying "many fish in the sea" ...

So whenever I see really old couples (like in their 80s) holding hands I always wonder if they were together for 50 years or if they just met ....heh-heh-heh *wink*

It's great that old men can take Viagara and have a good sex life........it's so healthy for you.
