I have travelled extensively (especially in the last 6 months) and I am intrigued by the Bidet and those that use it. Now I am no stranger to a Bidet...my family is European and ever since I was a kid we saw this in bathrooms over there. I was told (and continued to be told) that the bidet is for light personal grooming needs. When I probe further I was and continue to be told that it can range from your feet to your more intimate areas. I never used a bidet because I was intimated about washing anyhting in what looks like a toilet. Additionally I could never figure out how to angle the water to where I needed it most. The whole thing looks simply unappealing..so I wonder who the hell uses it? Why not just jump in the shower? What is even more fascinating is that not all europeans use it. Spanish, Portuguese and Italians use it and it is featured in most hotels. In France only some hotels have it. The U.K. (argueably not continental European) is technically European yet it is nowhere to be found. Austria and Germany don't have it but I am told that it can be found in Holland and the Czech Rebuplic. The Japanese offer an all in one toilet and bidet.

Someone once told me (so it's probably wrong,) that Americans are obsessed with personal hygiene and bathing, whereas other cultures aren't so hyper about it - a little spot cleaning here & there is good enough. Maybe that's why we don't see bidet's in the U.S.? I've never seen an actual one - I always wanted to give it a try though - just to see what it did!

We bought a house a number of years back and when we were looking at it, our boys were walking through with us and said "How cool, a drinking fountain in the bathroom!"

We removed it as soon as we moved in and remodeled the bathroom!

You want a story? I'll give you a story.
I took a group of kids to a farm on the school trip. I usually get picked to watch out for the kids. Anyway, after we eat lunch I take them all to the port o potties to go and wash up. Then to my horror, a kid told me she washed her hands. Washed with what? I have anti-bacterial lotion for you here and there is no sink in there. She said she used the pink soap. I looked in and she was using the urin cake! So after I let out a scream, I line them all up and ask, half of them did it. I tried not to laugh but I poured the anti-bac- lotion all over them. THANK GOD that I checked and they were new cakes and nobody used them yet. Then I had to give a ....basic lesson on how men can pee in a sink.

Everybody in Argentina uses bidet... we like our tushies to be clean after taking a dump.

I've seen those things where the water shoots straight up from the bottom of the bowl, on the other end of where the drain is. I turned both hot and cold faucets on and nearly hit the ceiling with the water shooting straight up like a fountain.
