20th year reunions?

I've received my announcement/invitation in the mail to attend my 20th HS reunion. I'm into it--I'm excited--I'm making plans to go.

Since many of us are around the same age, what are your thoughts about the 20th? Going/went/ not going/ no way ? I heard the 20th is much cooler than the 10th (which I did not attend). By the time of the 20th, people are much more relaxed, not as likely to showboat, and less likely to put on airs and stick their old HS cliques. What are your guys' feelings? And if you went, what kind of experiences did you have ?[?]

I realized that i'm now better looking than all the guys that were better looking than me in High School. Sweeeeeeeeeettttt! and have a better looking girlfriend. [:D]

I have never been to any high school reunion.
My 20th was a couple of years ago. I just couldn't see wasting the $100.00 to sit with people I didn't like back then.
I have a few friends who did go and they had a great time.
I am sure you will too.
From what I hear, be prepared for all the men to be bald and have big bellies.[:p]

I haven't been to any of my own.

I live not too far from where I went to HS, moving back after doing the nomadic college/work thing. I've kept up with the people I wanted to, and sometimes I really think if I wanted to catch up, all I need to do is go to happy hour at one of the town's watering holes and I'd see 80% of the people I went to HS with. I grew up, achieved a little something, and moved on. They didn't.

I don't want to come across as elitist or bitter, but that's where life took us.

I wouldn't waste my time with it. The real friends I had in high school I've kept in contact with over the years. I'd like to remember the asses from high school as they were, scrawny pissants, not as they probably are now, flabby pissants. Besides, it doesn't do anyone any good to look back. My best years are still ahead of me(and that's saying a lot). A better idea would be a NWO get-together. Y'all are a lot cooler than most of the kids I went to school with.

I live far from WA state, but have kept in touch with my closest friends as well. So really, this trip will be an excuse to see [i]them[/i], if nothing else[:)]. But you know, I had a positive HS experience, so I don't really have bitter memories. (now, Junior High--oof, that's an altogether different experience[B)]. never, never again! ha ha).
I'm very interested to see how everyone has turned out. I know the B***s will be old wrung-out hags, the cheerleaders will be peppy real estate agents, but meanwhile all us quirky nonconformists will be somebody fun!

hutter, there have been a few NWO get-togethers. Be on the lookout for one in your area. It seems like they try to combine it with going to a show or something cool. (re: wozgo, hex, and k seeing Berlin in Seattle. you know, we haven't heard from wozgo since then. he probably died and went to heaven![:p])

There was a 1 year reunion last year... and I didn't go to it. I hated high school and the people that went there with me. I don't want to see any of those idiots never again.

High school was a living hell for me. Early in my junior year, I moved from a magnet school in Memphis that was kinda similar to the school in "Square Pegs" to a small school in the far exurbs of Baltimore, where everyone had known everyone for years. I was an outcast, I was suicidal, and the girl who saved me from suicide dumped me after a month of dating.

But I went to the 20th year reunion anyway. It helped that the reunion was held at someone's house, rather than a stoopid old Sheraton Inn conference room. I discovered that I did in fact have good times and friends in high school, and that people remembered me, and they seemed generally interested in what's happened to me over the years.

I've concluded that my drama meter was just way too high in my teen years. I'm glad I went. I don't think I need to go to the 25th reunion, but, you never know.

PS. The girl who saved me from suicide was in a different grade than me, so I didn't have to confront that.

Yes 2006 is my 20th HS reunion---I'm still close friends with the 4 people I hung out with in HS. The only reason I would go to the reunion is if I had something to prove. and I don't. The other people I graduated with, other than my friends may as well be strangers in a supermarket. I will not go to my 20th reunion.

I am closing in on my 25th year reunion in 07. I am considering going just to see who is still alive. I have to go along with a lot you on really not caring to see hardly anyone i graduated with, i had more friends one year behind me than in my class. Since moving to Louisville, there's a guy i worked with for a while that i found out his wife and i attend the same school. We didn't even know each other, we started talking about high school and discovered we both were in the same graduating class. She and her husband attended the 20th and showed me the pics, you aren't telling a lie about bald and fat guys, we even had one guy bring his life partner and his dogs with him.

I have no desire to go to my 20th reunion in a couple of years. HS & Myself didn`t see eye to eye. Maybe I would go to the 80th reunion just so I could walk over a few of my former class mates with my walker. I`ll make sure I leave the tennis balls off. j/k

I went to mine and enjoyed it quit a lot. My main disapointment was that the organizers didn't do a great job tracking people down and getting the word out. There were a lot of people I would have liked to see that didn't come.

My 20th won't be until 2009 but there's no reason I won't go, I had a good time at my 10th.

I don't have the high school horror stories that many seem to have. My school was small enough (my graduating class of 125 was the largest at a 7-12 school) that everyone knew everyone. There were jerks, sure, but nothing ridiculous.

I thought it was fun to see who got married, who got fat, who went somewhere and did something fun, etc. Most people turn into regular boring adults, but usually everyone has a good story or two.

I went to mine two years ago. It wasn't a huge revelation, but I had a nice time, and it was of sociological interest.

High school wasn't hell for me (that was junior high . . . I was 5'4" and a B cup from the age of 11, so it was a little rough until everyone caught up with me). By the time high school rolled around my friends and I had settled into our little New Wave clique and didn't really need the approval of anyone else. We never made fun of the nerdy kids, but we felt free to make vicious comments about the popular kids (because they were popular so they had it coming? [:I][V]).

Everyone was very friendly, in general. Most of the women looked really good (some had had some "help"), though some had that frumpy "mom" look. As for the men, the beanpole types seemed to have fared the best; the formerly muscular types were all pretty fat. But the best of all were the Asian guys! We had a lot of third-generation Japanese-Americans at my school, and advantages of a genetic tendency to stay lean and keep one's hair were quite evident!

Still, it was a little sad doing all this reminiscing without my other Skoochies friends. KYYX, as you know, all the New Wave kids from all the area high schools hung out at Skoochies, and though we were all quite tight at the time we fell out of touch pretty quickly in college. It would have been nice to see some of them. I've been told that some of the Seattle dance clubs have sponsored Skoochies reunions in the past but I never heard about them.

The best part was catching up with my friend L., who was part of the NW crowd but not a super-close friend back then. We've been hanging out and going to some shows . . . we're both huge Franz Ferdinand fans!
