Did music make you who you are (or were?)

I have been reading for a few weeks now and you are bringing back memories of KYYX, dances and growing up in the 80’s - thanks!

Here is my question:

New Wave was my music growing up and still is in many ways. That said, it was not who I was. I was and am rather conservative in politics and religion. Yet, Devo, Thompson Twins, Oingo Boingo, The Clash, The Alarm, B-52’s and Psychedelic Furs were all on heavy rotation on my personal sound track. Was I alone? Anyone else dance to the beat even though it clashed with who they were?

Music can influence ideas, fashion, politics, faith.
