dancing with myself, sort of

Postby manekineko » Thu Sep 08, 2005 4:26 pm

I just got back from going out dancing (by myself) and I simply had to post this before I go to bed. I'm completely exhausted, but super hyped up on Diet Coke (I had to make sure I was wide-eyed enough to drive the 30 miles home), and giddy from a fantastic night of dancing.

About once a month I drive to Portland on Thursdays to dance at a club that plays new wave. My husband couldn't go (he has to get up for work in three hours) and my friend, Lisa, couldn't go either. So I decided to go by myself! I have had dancing fever all week and simply HAD TO go dancing!!! Appropriately, the first song that was playing as I entered the club was Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol.

Over the several months that I've been going there I've made friends with the DJ, so I hung out in the DJ booth for a while. On my last trip there I gave him a compilation CD that I made of mostly goth and dark wave, as he is really into it. Early in the evening (before 10 PM) he plays darker, more obscure stuff, before the crowd really builds up and the music becomes more mainstream.

Tonight I really hit a dance groove, especially during Rapture by Blondie. I was one with the music, I was in Rapture! I was on the dancefloor most of the night. I had a fabulous time, and it didn't matter one bit that I went there alone!

Early in the evening I needed to sit down, so I sat on a couch next to a young Indian man (from India). We made small talk (I couldn't hear whether his name was Robbie or Ravi) and when Blue Monday came on, I asked him to dance. He turned out to be a "close dancer", LOL! He danced so close to me--uncomfortably close--that I accidently hit him in the crotch with my fist as I was dancing! Too funny! (For me, not for him, I'm sure!)

Ugh, I'm beat. I hope I can sleep after all the Diet Coke I drank tonight. I'll be dancing in my dreams... [:)]

"10¢ a dance ... that's what they pay me..." <img src="http://www.cooganphoto.com/invboard/html/emoticons/tongue.gif">
Sounds like fun...sometimes you gotta go out and shake your groove thang.

Sounds like a very liberating and cathartic experience to venture out solo like that.

I've longed to revisit my dance hall days but have yet to act on it for fear of embarrassement [:I] or worse, injury[B)].

Wow, manek, that's cool! Good for you!... I would never have the guts to go to a club alone no matter how many people I might know in there! It's been such a long time since I went dancing... in public, that is! [:p]

You be that dancin' fool! Git down with your bad self.

I wanted to say something about your pummeling of crotches, but I can't think of anything witty right now.

I'm sure I sent that lucky Hindu to pure nirvana, and I don't mean Cobain and company. [:D]

Oh Manekineko my friend - sounds like an awesome experience (the dancing, not the crotch beating - unless you're into that kind of thing...)
If I lived near you - you'd have a permanent dancing partner, because wolverines LOVE dancing!!

I haven't been out in so long - I wish we had a club nearby that played new wave, all I have now is my dining room! [8D]

Oh, manekineko, you're the crotch-beatingest gal I know! It sounds as if you may have created a sadist version of the Hokey Pokey quite by accident (or not).

Go out again tonight and see what more damage you can do!

Wolvy, we'd have a standing date to go out every week, I promise! We'd burn holes in that dancefloor!

By the way, do wolverines dance on two or four feet?

Wow, cool, manekineko!
I'd totally go dancing alone, if only a club around here played New Wave, even for just a night. Mr. KYYX would NEVER go, and all my friends here, cool as they are, do NOT listen to or like New Wave.
So, good on you, manek!
I hear ya 'bout the solo dancing...who cares, as long as you're having fun[8D]
