Lately I've been thinking about some of the handy-dandy categories we use for music on this site: synthpop-garage-psych-punk-new wave-power pop-

Where on earth do Mr. Partridge and Company fit into the mix? Especially since their still doing stuff.

Any thoughts?

XTC was considered new wave for a while by the radio station I listened to in the 80s,KROQ, but I've also heard them called jangle pop(like the Bangles)or modern rock. In the late 80s, I taped a live interview and acoustic on-air set they played, and the

I liked some of their earlier stuff, but to echo the sentiments expressed already, wasn't a big fan of "Mayor of Simpleton" and other late-80's releases that sounded more of the MTV mainstream than anything else...

I definitely agree with knightoboingo. I was a rabid fan of their earlier stuff (still am). While I appreciate their later eighties forays into psychedelia, I was never as into it.
