I know that there's another thread that has Retro Remixed on there but it seems like no one else is reading that one anymore so I'm starting a new one here.

If you guys haven't bought this cd yet, go buy it. This is without a doubt one of the best 80's remixed cd's out there. It contains a bunch of rare versions and the sound quality is spectacular. The highlights in my opinion are the following:

The Promise - When In Rome
(Great trance version of the song with resung vocals, I think by the original singer, but still excellent. The last three minutes of the song is trance to perfection. The best thing about this remix is that it holds on to the original song. There are a lot of remixes out there that you think to yourself, man was that the same song?!?)

Nova Heart - Spoons
(My favourite track on the cd and the biggest surprise for me. I didn't think that a remix can sound as good or maybe even a little better than the original but I think this remix maybe be a candidate. It's got kind of a smooth house/trance beat and the vocals and guitar from the original is used to perfection. For those of you who listen to trance, it sounds a lot like Motorcycle's "As The Rush Comes In".)

What Is Love - Howard Jones
(Great mix of great song. How can they make What Is Love dancey? Well they did and they did a great job. I think Howard Jones would enjoy this version)

Dance With Me - Alphaville
(This one is great because the cd single goes for over $30 a pop. Great dance version of a classic)

Hey Little Girl - Icehouse
(Very unique style of mixing and interesting to listen to. Dark sounding)

There are two songs though on the cd that I didn't enjoy as much as the others. They are:

Oh L'amour - Erasure
(Remixed by legendary Trance DJ Matt Darey which I thought could do no wrong. Well, he did wrong. This song just sounds too busy and the original was not very well mixed into the new beat)

Shout - Tears For Fears
(This is the kind of remixes that I really don't like too much. You listen to it and wonder, is this really "Shout" anymore. Anyways, Beatchuggers will not get any money from me on future mixes)

Don't let these two songs deter you though from getting this cd. The other 9 songs are good to outright awesome. Well done Alex and thanks to Hi Bias for releasing such cool cd's for us.

One quick question for Alex, will there be a cd single released for The Promise?

Is the lack of response for my original thread or this one a direct reflection of the lack of interest for this release? Maybe Alex can give us some insight into what the sales are like for this CD thus far. Personally, although I prefer the original mix

Guys and gals, pick this cd up before it disappears into oblivion or before you have to bid and arm and a leg on ebay. It's great stuff! If you've already picked it up, put some comments on here. I'm sure the makers would love to see a response.

I listened to the clips they had available online. Wasn't overly impressed with any of them really. Maybe I have to listen to them again, but I am not usually a fan of very modern takes on older classics that sound virtually entirely unlike the original

I have no problem with Cds like Retro Remixed. I'm sure there is a market for modern remixes like this. In fact when I was a club DJ, I couldn't get enough of them. [8D]

If I was a club DJ I' be all over this stuff. Otherwise this over 40, ex radio DJ, ex record company scumbag, still music lover, father, has no need for this stuff. I'll stick with the originals.
