Gwen Stefani's "Cool"? What song is this?

Postby ghosty » Thu Sep 15, 2005 3:28 am

Anyone heard or seen the video for this song? While the entire album is reportedly rife with NW pastiches (I think Bernard Sumner wrote a track as well), I caught the video for this song last night. I like it but it sounds to me like the melody was lifted wholesale from......see...that's the problem. I heard it. It was awfully familiar but I can't think of the name of the song. Some hit from the 80's. I swear I've heard this song in the past. Anyone know?

She looked mighty fine in the video too. 36 year old women portrayed as glamourous in pop videos? I'm all for it.

I tried and couldn't figure it out. The intro especially sounded very familiar. Furs, maybe?

Til Tuesday "Voices Carry"?

There's also a riff in "Cool" that reminds me of "Love Your Face" by Boom Boom Room.

Oddly, it reminds me of Jane Wiedlin's "Blue Kiss".

That's exactly who I was thinking of. It sounds eerily like "The Ghost in You."

I'm always impressed when a 36-year-old can get a video on eMpTyV at all. Since their heyday, they've come down with a bad case of "Logan's Run."

I've also detected a little bit of an obscure Queen song called "In Only Seven Days" in the synth line. Does'nt quite fit in with the overt NW tone of the track but methinks there's some multiple theivery going on here.

Did I mention how great she looks in the video? Ahem...as a brunette, legs all akimbo..shallow? Me? Never.

The first time I heard the song I said to my wife "it's an 80s lovesong!"

I've seriously considered adding this song to my playlist on Club 80s.

If this song was done by somebody not as well known as Gwen more people would love it. You have to give her credit. It's a great song. And the video is one of the best I've seen in a long time. She looks amazing - especially on the bed. It's a good concept and nicely edited. It's sexier than all the garbage rap videos with hoes shakin' their asses at the camera. It was shot at a great location too. Now I want to go visit Lake Como, Italy where it was shot.

I'm still not going to buy the CD though. It's the kinda song you download as a single at iTunes.

From what I understand, everyone from No Doubt were NW fans, so I'm not surprised her song sounds NW....I also wouldn't be surprised if she did "borrow" some of the song from a NW song....it's happened before...

when i firs heard that song, i knew right there and then that it was a remake. i remember that not only the song but the tune as well are a carbon copy of an 80's song. i'm only 30 yrs. old but i can remember listening to this song on 93Q kkbq in houston, texas back in the 80's . i'm surprised that we are all having a hard time trying to remember how in the hell did the original score to this song especialy the older, more die hard newwavers. i know that this is a hard one, but someone out there must know the answers to all of our questions. when you gusy find out please let me know. i haven slept right for the past few days because of this. good luck [8D][8D]

I'll never forgive Ms. Stefani for what she did to It's My Life. She sounds the way my sister used to when she was playing pop star in her bedroom.
