Goldfrapp !!!

Postby react010 » Mon Aug 01, 2005 1:03 am

I reckon it's the best music i've heard from a new band in ages !!
Check it out and judge for yourself:

The new single 'Ooh La La' (videoclip):

Videoclip to one of their recent singles 'Strict Machine' (Top Of The Pops):

The title track to their last album 'Black Cherry' (video):

Very curious what you all think about this band....
Happy watching !!

Armoured cars sail the sky
They're pink at dawn
If I lived forever you just wouldn't be so beautiful
As the sun
When it shines
All over the world
We're pilots watching the stars
The world pre-occupied
We're pilots watching the stars
Who do you think we are ?
Ice and clouds
Shimmer outside
Rain just falls
At magic hour
It's just the sound
Of you and me
Time twitching
Murmurs of our friendly machine

I've never liked Goldfrapp. Always found them to be on the most boring side of their genre, which is certainly not Next Wave. [/snob]

Yeah, they're not next wave, new wave, alterno, or whatever. They were pretty hard to classify until Supernature, which is a bit more mainstream electro-dance-pop I guess. I'm still enamored by their first album Felt Mountain which stands as one of my favorites of all time - a sort of John Barry-inspired cinematic trip-hop that still blows my mind.

Blir turned me on to Goldfrapp and I really dig them. The cinematic comparison is dead on, IMHO. I don't know, could they be loosely classified as chill out maybe?

Oh god no!!!!!!!! That would be a fate worse than death. It connotes those shitty albums for which suburban housewives walk into Virgin Megastores and go "I'm really into that cool new music these kids are listening to...you know, that 'chillout' stuff?" Ack! Those comps are a cut above "Now that's what I call music" IMHO.

How's that for snobery nate? [^]

You got me wrong. There IS awesome chillout out there. It's those crappy comps that some culture whore thinks gives them instant credibility that annoy me. It's like picking up one of those 80s comps and proclaiming new wave god-dome.

Shit, I hate when I sound like such a pissy tool like I just did. [V]
