I can, on an intellectual level, appreciate dislike toward Duran Duran. But, when I think of the early "New Wave" era, and those who brought it to the limelight, I think of Duran Duran's videos and their breakout album "Rio" (their second offerring).

Granted, they did tremendously benefit from catchy videos that got repeated air play on MTV, but "Rio" was nevertheless a solid offering, followed by a pretty solid "Seven and the Ragged Tiger."

Discuss among yourselves. [8D]

You're saying "solid" and "pretty solid" qualify them for NWO Surivor-Idol Championship level? I beg to differ Red! The remainder are in the Pantheon of New Wave gods that helped create the genre (and others). Duran Duran in my mind came late to the part rather than early. But that's the interesting part of all our perspectives...all different.

You should know that I add a qualification to practically everything I say. Comes from being one of the damn attorneys I s'pose.

I certainly buy your argument on Devo and New Order. I had a neighbor last night argue that "The Cars" started New Wave. I told him he should go back and review "disco" for the beginnings of New Wave.

I guess redxred was more persuasive than Blir. Duran Duran had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, but Devo picked put a lot of votes to tie it.

I always throught of Devo as being more creative & original than Duran Duran. Simon & the boys made some really cool videos, but they were always just a little too commercial for my liking. I'd consider them to be more of a mainstream band.
