... Well, sort of.
Found this blurb below on the 'net.
It's ashame that the Eastern Long Island FM 107.1 (now using the former 92.7 WLIR callsign), does not reach far enough west to even cover almost ANY of the original WLIR's listening area. It can't be heard in Nassau LI, New Jersey (me), or NYC at all. (I would love to hear the old commercials & jingles, as well as the music!!)
But for those of you on Eastern LI, You have a treat this Labor Day weekend!! (See Below)........
"...The original WLIR/LONG ISLAND makes a return this LABOR DAY weekend. Beginning FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 3rd at noon, TMO Alternative WLIR (107.1 THE BOX) will flashback for four days with all the original station imaging and programming. That's right, from the basement of the 'LIR-chives are thousands of old reel-to-reels, carts, and tapes from twenty years ago. They will air original jocks, original jingles, original commercials, vintage live concerts & artist interviews, SHREEKS & SCREAMERS, along with Alternative songs from the `80s & `90s.
"This weekend is intended to be a complete replica of the original WLIR," said JOHN CARACCIOLO, President of the former WLIR 92.7 and the new WLIR (107.1 THE BOX). "Listeners will feel as though they've stepped back into the `80's and `90s. I'm sure many of our biggest fans will find themselves looking twice at their stereos to see if they are tuned to 92.7........."
