Favorite 80's Fad?

HACKYSACKS, SONY WALKMAN, RED LEATHER JACKETS (THRILLER) AND MOPEDS.

I MISS THE 80'S TOO.

Hair up in a high side ponytail!

The biggest look of the early 80's I remember is:
The leggings that go just past your knees with the pumps and add a wide belt with HUGE hoop earings and BIG NON STRAIGHT HAIR!

Metal barrettes that were braided with two thin ribbon in different colors.

My favorite: the white jersey t-shirts that had the three-quarter length sleeves with a rainbow across the chest. (so cheezy, but I had such a shirt)

Of course Dallas and Dynasty for me to watch!

Atari and breakdance. I have to admit I was amazed when I first saw Michael Jackson moonwalk across that stage!

Yeah mygreen, I kinda miss wearing all my Duran Duran pins (and other pins) all over my clothes, too. That was always a labour of love.

I think at one point I must of had a hundred of those on my jacket. Every one of them had meaning too! I also had a massive collage in my bedroom of posters and pictures from Teen Beat and 16 magazines with nothing but Duran Duran, wait I take that back I think I had some posters of Wham in my closet. That is so ironic now![:)]

I did the big sock thing, too. I wore two pair in different colors, matched to whatever I was wearing.

Yeah and Parachute or Flight pants for about two weeks, then they were EVERYWHERE.

Giant baggy suit jackets.

Dad's old tailoered suits from the sixties (my high school year book picture has me wearing one of them)with the small lapels and drainpipe pants.

Porkpie hats and Lambrettas.

Doc Martens back when only one store on Melrose knew what they were.

Iceblocking (not an 80's thing but that's when I did it)

Doc Martens ..hemm..

With plaid kilts and fishnet stockings..or little boots..
and ripped tee shirts or sweatshirts..

Long coats old fur or long raincoats and army coats..

Those dyed jeans that were striped color over stripes..right with the zippers at the ankle..

Hair short on one side long on the other..OR the "bob"..Or short hair with Flock of Seagulls overflow..This was the Louise Brooks/"Mod" fascination..

Many skirt and little black dress outfits with little boots or dm's and requisite vintage raincoat..

Those Goths would wear so much Nazi regalia back then wasn't into it..

And too much black like on lips, didnt like that or parachute pants..

Most of those fads above were more at night clubs mentioned here or St. Mark's place and not so usual for all colleges..

This was all almost basic collewear by the 90's and in those times shortly thereafter..

A few corets were modestly seen here and there, but mostly no one wore their underwear on the outside, like Madonna had dont regularly..

We had standards..

HA! I matched up socks to my sweaters and cardigans, NW prepster style, pants rolled up [:p] Depeche Mode rockin' on the walkman [:D]

How 'bout that whole back pack hanging off of one shoulder thing? What the heck was THAT all about? I swear, my back is shot today because of that. When (and why) did we decide not to use the other strap on the other shoulder???[V]

Swatches. I had 3 of them (w/ Swatchguards), along w/ a Benetton watch and a Guess watch.

I wear a Swatch now, albeit a much newer one.

I don't think the one-strap backpack thing ever went away. I wore mine like that in high school and college (the '90s) and my kids do it now. Or maybe we're just weird.
