Hi everyone -- This is my first posting on NWO! Found it Googling City Beat and Skoochies, trying to find playlists (no luck). Friend of mine is trying to put together an underground new wave night at the Vogue in Seattle...R.I.P. KYYX and KJET! Would any of you come? I can send a note when it happens. [;)]

Favorite 80s fashion: Long bangs hanging over one eye, army jackets, vintage clothes, lots o' pins, pointy Fluevogs, skinny or pegged pants, asymmetrical haircuts with one shaved/closely cropped side, black rubber bangles, oversized shirts buttoned to the top, skinny ties and fedoras!

Nice! I would've thought you were *so* cool.
I lived in skinny black stretch pants with flat black lace-up boots and an oversized shirt (buttoned to the top w/ a brooch) or an old cardigan that I stole from my dad's closet. I "borrowed" his black trench too. Good thing he was a men's M so I wasn't totally drowning in his clothes.

Hah, that reminds me of how many clothes I "borrowed" from my dad! He was in the army, so I had access to some rather cool military-type jackets.
Also, all that hunting for brooches was my first introduction to garage sales and thrift stores, back in the day. I particularly liked the rhinestone/fake rhinestone ones.

Geez....I really miss these clothes....sigh...

Do you still have any of that stuff?

I still have my pins/brooches, Fluevogs, boom box (though 1 of the 2 tape decks eats tapes), and rusting tetherball set in my parents' garage!

I still have some odds and ends from then. I wish I'd saved more! It's just nostalgia, but it's still fun to see it now and again. I still have Pins (mostly Duran Duran), some of the jewelry, a lot of the big shirts (which I wore thru the 90's...I still did the leggings and big shirts thing), stuff like that. Sometimes I still bust out a brooch. I still dress somewhat unusually, with a certain flair.

One thing about growing up in the 80s New Wave; it set a foundation standard for dress and attire that remains with me today!

I'm certain it's played an active role in my falling in the fashion industry career wise. We had such creative influences in building our wardrobe. Thrift, military, some retro, all our bands, the whole lifestyle / scene and then some all held sway over the fashions of the day. It's all very creative and self espressive, fashion. And don't forget the haircuts. With the girls makeup was part of it too.

Definitely! So many great photos in there...I'm tempted to post a couple. [:)]

Like you and Marvymarv, 80s fashion defined my personal style in a big way. Along with a strong aversion to tucking in tops, I'll still wear sleek pants with pointy boots, paisley on occasion, Creepers, bangles or wrist cuffs.

I really miss the creative fashion and experimental hair styles back then.

right on KYYX4ever! my pops was in the Army during Korea and he had two jackets i would wear.both wool,one was a lightweather waistcut-sharp as Hell!! and the other was full-length wintercoat.these i would adorn with the pins my grandfathers collected in WWI and WWII.very tasty indeed.the short coat i gave to my brother's wife as it no longer fit me,but i'm lookin at the wintercoat as we speak[8D]

I was very into those short coats - someone once told me they were aviator jackets. I had a couple - I suppose I have one stashed somewhere in my basement. I had to dig pretty hard at the Army/Navy store for one that fit though - they were all so small!

i must admit Wolvie i do not know the particular name given to that style of jacket.my dad was a reserve chaplain(doesn't explain me at all lol)but i think they were standard issue to all who made it past bootcamp,still very stylish,and yes very small.[:)]...gosh i'm sorry but i'm about to score a 97 yard TD run on my Coleco[:D]

DESIGNER SHOELACES!!! OMG, I couldn't believe my 11 year old was just telling me what a huge fad it is...AGAIN! He want's dayglo green! LOL!!!!!!

Yes, designer shoelaces ARE back. My 15 year old stepson actually has sets of different shoelaces to match his outfits. He has a baby blue outfit with black jeans and black shoes, but he has to lace them up with baby blue laces to match the outfit! What a girlieman!

Actually, I admit to having a thing for day-glo/flourescent stuff. I do like that business.

I also shouldn't rag on my son. I am an avid wearer (not quite a collector) of Converse Chuck Taylor's. I used to sport the hi-tops back in the day but for many years have worn lo-tops.

I have about a dozen pair (and yes, I do wear them to match my shirts at times...) brown, black, blue, green, neon green, antigue gold, orange, checkered, etc.

Can't say Chucks are really an 80s fad though, since they've been around since World War 1.
