I think the antithesis of punk and new wave was all that rock and roll that was out before the movement started. To me, it was kind of a rebellion against arena-type bands like Bad Company, Jethro Tull, Boston, Styx, etc. A band could make a good 3-4 mi

Does anti-New Wave mean "bad"? That's preposterous! There's good music (or more accurately music that speaks to you) to be found in every genre. I'll agree with Grunch on this one.

The most anti new wave music ever spawned has to be grunge and emo. IMO, these genres of rock formed as a reaction to the popularization of new wave and synthpop of the 80's. Of the two, Emo has to be the worst sounding sh**t ever produced.
