It was also the last album done with Alan Wilder who was a production MASTER hence the great, large, grand almost ominous feel to it's sound. Think Never Let Me Down Again from Muic For The Masses or Halo from Violator (both maginificent albums as well - will never downplay them at all).

It took me a while to get Ultra and Exciter, and when I finally got them and I felt like something was missing. It's probably because of what you pointed out, marvymarv, that Alan Wilder's gone and the albums post-SOFAD are lacking that grandiose sound I've come to love and associate with DM. They just didn't have the same emotional impact on me that earlier releases did. Have you (or anyone here) heard anything from Playing the Angel yet?

As of now, my favorite album is Black Celebration with Some Great Reward a close 2nd.

It's interesting...DM is one of those bands I grew up hearing but only recently started delving deeply into. I'm not informed enough yet to give a thorough opinion, though.

"Speak & Spell" has been a favorite for a long time now, though.

As far as songs, I'd probably have to say "Enjoy The Silence" and "Blasphemous Rumours."

I'm noticing a very strong preference for the singles in this thread. Not that that's bad, necessarily (they are indeed a great singles band), it's just interesting.
