BBC's John Peel Day

Folks,

In honor of the first anniversary of John Peel's final show, BBC Radio 1 will be doing a number of special things on October 13 as part of "John Peel Day".

This will be streamed live on the web, and will also be available via Sirius (who will have started playing Radio 1 on a five-hour delay by then.) It'll start at 7PM British time (2PM EDT on the web; 7PM EDT delay on Sirius.)

There will be a tribute CD as well, with tracks from artists associated with Peel, and a new cover version of "Ever Fallen In Love" by the Undertones (???that's what it says!!) recorded by Peter Hook, Jeff Beck and The Futureheads.

There may be a few errors and omissions, but the BBC's site is up now, and it's pretty exhaustive. Even has audio clips from many sessions, and video from interviews as well as from Peel's incongruous stint as host of Top Of The Pops.

As for me, I'll be observing the day Thursday by noting each of the bands I happen to play that got their start with a Peel session, playing Teenage Kicks in power rotation, and Mr. Peel himself will be heard spelling out Altrok's URL while reading out an e-mail of mine - which was, frankly, a very kind thing of him to do.

Frankly, I'm surprised this thread didn't generate more heat. Just the portion where New Order did a strictly-Joy Division live set (recorded yesterday) shoulda sent a few hearts doing backflips...

It's been phenomenal Hubs. I just thought I may have run out of my quota of New Order/Joy Division gushing! [:I] But the fact that they did Warsaw is UNBELIEVEABLE!!!
