Wavers Covering Disco?

Postby MARV » Fri Oct 14, 2005 3:03 am

I'm working on a compilation of New Wave / 80's artists paying homage to Disco / 70's culture. So far, I only have these.

Soft Cell - I Feel Love
Go West - What You Won't Do For Love
Erasure - When Will I See You Again, various Abba tunes
Andy Bell & K.D. Lang - Enough Is Enough
Pet Shop Boys - Break For Love (more of a house tune, but along the same lines)

I know there are more out there. Can anybody help?

Communards, Don't Leave Me This way...VERY disco...VERY gay...you know, like happy! [:D]
Communards, Never Can Say Goodbye
Jimmy Somerville, To Love Somebody...hmm, I sense a trend. Billy Corgan just did this cover too.

Doh, I guess I didn't type fast enough.

I remember some post boy george drag queen named Zette did an awesome cover of Le Freak...sort of the same style as Pseudoecho's FunkyTown.

Although it's not New Wave - Jeannie Tracey's cover of Don't Leave Me This Way makes the Communards look like a bunch of chinless whiny boys...which on second thought isn't that hard of a feat.

I remember there was a KC & the Sunshine Band cover out there too - I can't remember the song or the artist though!

Marv - have you thought of making a comp of more updated disco covers rather than being exclusive to the 80's? I have a couple cds worth of trance & modern remakes of the classics! [:D]

That's a really good idea Wolvinator. I have some of stuff along those lines too. I bet if we put our heads together we'd make a sick mix [8D] Seriously, let's do it. E-mail a brotha.

Goldfrapp does an amazingly sexy cover of "Let's Get Physical" on her Utopia EP. Called "UK Girls (Physical)". Check my share.

How about Heaven 17's cover of "Don't Fear the Reaper" off their new album Before/After. It's not disco but it's a signature 70s track that supremely toe-tappingly danceable in this remake.
