Blancmange - "The Day Before You Came" by Abba

Also, for something more modern, check out "I Feel Love" (the Donna Summer tune) by Cobra Verde. Really good stuff.

I've never heard of this one. I'd love a copy, if anyone's got an mp3 to share.

Thanks, IWantMyMTV. The Yousendit link seems to be stuck at the moment. I'll try again in a little while.

I know it was played in discotheques and clubs at the tail end of the disco era, but can you really classify "Heart Of Glass" as disco? To me it's still new wave. The Clash's "Magnificent Dance" also appears on numerous disco-era playlists, but you'd never classify that as traditional "disco."

IMHO it is definitely disco and disco-influenced (cf I Feel Love, a mix of disco and wave). And don't forget the Blondie video with the disco ball.

I'd say it's disco - but it sounded nothing like any other disco music at the time - or since. I suppose we could say it was a new wave of disco...[;)] I think Blondie, as a group, just streched artisticly & musically more than some others & picked up on genres and tested them out.

It bothers me that Blondie is sometimes called a Disco band - come on, 4 songs doesn't erase all the other awesome music they did. I suppose it might seem that way to people who only hear the hits though...
