I love Watership Down.
I'll have to watch it again tomorrow - love that movie! I don't remember the book, although I know I read it.

I'm not voting here. None of the above is my vote. I love kid's movies very often, nothing wrong with that Otters, but must confess I have seen neither of these. Tell you what--I will check out the winner. Convince me fine people.[;)]

[i]Watership Down[/i] and [i]Plague Dogs[/i] are two films, which used animation as its medium, but shouldn't really be considered or placed in the genre of animation.

I'll let my kids do the voting for me. They watched N.I.M.H. and fell asleep but they've seen Watership a half dozen times and never get tired of it.

I'm sold. Watership Down is now officially on my "To be checked out" list. Can I find this in an average video store and under what category? Tell me more about this film--if so many of you like it I assume I would too--we NWO'ers agree on so many things ya know...

You can probably find it under Family or animated films - although it can be a little too intense for real little kids.

It's about a group of rabbits whose field is plowed over and they go on a journey to find a new home. Along the way they face a lot of struggles, death, cats, guns, an injured albatross that joins them, bad rabbits, etc.

It's a beautiful movie, and if I recall correctly it's more of a commentary on our culture, spirituality and respecting life & nature than simply a movie about rabbits on the run.

You should check it out!

Otters, did you mean the films or the books?

Watership Down is a great book, I remember reading it as a kid. The film was good, but there was no way they could have fit as complex as story as that into a 2 hour film.

The Secret of N.I.M.H I thought did a better job fo adapting the book (as the story wasn't quite so complex)

My Nieces love N.I.M.H

THIS IS THE THREAD OF MY LIFE!!!

I simply can not tell you how much I love these two.
Id have to chose Watership Down.
I have the original soundtrack on CD (Not CD-R). I freaking love it. I cant stop watching it. I cant stop reading it. I always make this huge deal out of t....Im so freaking OBSESSED with WD.

SO FREAKING OBSESSED.
Every like 2 weeks...I go through a day where I cant stop talking about it. I love the soundtrack. I listen to it a lot. The movie makes me cry all over the place..and the book OMG.

The soundtrack by Angela Morely.....is one of the greatest pieces of music ever written.

I have some of the NIMH soundtrack on CD-R.
Its pretty awesome. It was such a rarity...I used to try and watch it..but it never came on the TV and the VHS was impossible to find.

Ultimately, I was thinking about the books, but it doesn't really matter. I was more interested in seeing comments, finding out if people liked either one, etc. Personally, I remember the NIMH movie more than the book, and I've read Watership Down many times but only saw the movie once.

Watership Down is one of my favorite books ever. Wolverine's description is pretty much on the mark. You'd definitely want to consider showing the film to small children, there is a lot of death in the story.

I like to use phrases like "passing hraka" to see if anyone gets it.

[i]Watership Down[/i] is a classic. I used to teach it to my Honors 9th grade classes. Classic epic tale of survival, friendship, loss, journey, death, life, battles....excellent story all around! I've never seen a movie version of it, though.

Watership Down is one of the best books ever. I read it to my two oldest kids a couple of years ago. The only other book that held our interest like Watership Down was Ender's Game. Even Lord of the Rings wasn't as gripping.

The Secret of NYMN is good also but not in the same league as Watership Down.
