Thanks for the info. I agree with Barmy that we don't need new Blancmange material. What we need is their back catalogue re-released to CD.

I dunno - I thought it sounded pretty interesting, i.e. an expansion of their sound and not a desperate attempt to remake "Living On The Ceiling"...

Was never a great fan of Blancmange but I wonder if they'll have new material that sounds like "Lose Your Love", "Waves" or "The Day Before You Came".

That's what I'd think, sheesh! Unless they were hacks to begin with or part of some kludgey BS like the New Cars, I'd be eager to hear it. Last year was great for new New Wave albums IMHO - Echo & the Bunnymen, A-Ha, New Order, Heaven 17, Simple Minds, Depeche Mode, etc. It's at least something interesting to check out. If you don't then like it, move on. But to characterize it as "sad" or "blindly following your old bands" like I've seen elsewhere doesn't give the bands or their fans much credit. Not saying that there aren't real hangers-on - OMG, AFOS (or at least Mike Score) was an embarrassment on TV...but I made that judgment after watching that train wreck myself! [:0]

Yeah, you're right. More power to the new Blancmange and I hope lots of people will check it out and buy their stuff (so that a label will take interest and re-release their back catalogue [;)] ... that or the new release flops and their back catalogue needs to be re-released to recoup some money [:)]).

Bands that are now coming out of the woodwork after a 20-year absence are only doing so because "new" "internet" "technology" like MySpace enables them to reach the small handful of people who still care. If there is not enough demand to justify a re-release of their old CDs (which sell for mucho $$$ on eBay), I sincerely doubt the new music will sell well.

I also object to their offer to share their work in progress. Who do these people think they are? They did a couple of neat tunes 20 years ago. That's it.

They are just trading on their name. I have no objection to solo work or re-groupings. But to just trot the Blancmange name out of the closet after all this time seems sad to me.

Listening to the new songs on the myspace page it doesn't really sound like they're trying to cash in. The re-recording of God's Kitchen is a bit silly, but the other 2 tracks really don't sound like vintage Blancmange. I would think that if cashing in were the sole reason to get back together then they'd rewrite Living On The Celining 9 times and wait for the paychecks.

I would like to hear something from them. If it sucks, then so be it, but I would love the chance to hear them again. I take that stand with most of the my favs from the 80s. Sure I haven't heard a new Flock Of Seagulls song that I liked, but I give it a chance. If nothing else there might be a good tour out of it and an opportunity to see a band who I might not have been able to see back then, or maybe it will spark some interest for reissues with some sweet bonus tracks. So let them have a go at it and see what happens.
