"Broken Man"? [Plz. forgive blatant acousticness.]

Okay, I'm probably breaking all sorts of protocols or otherwise starting off on the wrong foot here, as this isn't *precisely* New Wave -- but it is (late) eighties, and I seem to recall seeing a post in the early, early days of the net suggesting that the band that may have recorded it was based in Southern California -- so KROQ may very well have played it once or twice. It's far too acoustic to be entirely appropriate for this forum, but I've been searching for over a decade, and many of you have collections vast and broad -- so I figure it can't hurt to ask.

[And of course I didn't write down the name of the band listed on the web page that no longer seems to exist anywhere; the mix tape I got this song from has no label; the guy who made the tape for the friend of a friend of a friend I got it from has proven impossible to track down -- you know how the story goes.]

I figure the song is virtually guaranteed to be called "Broken Man," but none of the tracks on the iTunes Music Store or any p2p I've found anywhere match it.

It's somewhat celtic-rock, in a way that's sort of in the crosshairs between 10,000 Maniacs, The Cranberries, The Sundays, and Jane Siberry.

Nice call plagiarism. It is indeed the [b]Peregrins[/b] with [b]"Broken Man"[/b]. Their self titled album came out in 1989 and can still be found fairly easily on cd. You came to the right place, shad0wcapt [:)]

[Couldn't track down any online versions of their stuff, but what little information I could track down about them online -- including a one-sentence capsule review that described them as "Guitar rock with the distinct sound of 10,000 Maniacs" -- pretty much locked them in as the likeliest candidate. And you're right; from Amazon to eBay, used CDs seem to be both plentiful and dirt cheap.]

And just filling in the (holding-the-record-for-longest-time-left-blank) "Album" and "Artist" IDE tags on my analog rip is *incredibly* satisfying, much less finally knowing exactly what I'm looking for. The oxide was starting to wear off of that particular tape, and I was running out of hope of ever tracking down a digital replacement.
