PPS, before anyone accuses me of racism or nationalism, let me make it clear that my reference to "Anglo-Saxon" in the above post relates to the fine tradition of Anglo-American potty humor traceable from Chaucer down through "American Pie" and was not intended to exclude other races or nationalities. Benny Hill was a major influence in my formative years.

Precisely. Which (granted, I sort of got side-tracked) is another point I was trying to make. Isn't that sort of what the board has become?
Originally posted by hutter... you just appear to be vocal when it's in response to something or someone you don't care for.
That's absolutely untrue. I can honestly say that in the nearly three years I've been a member of this board, I have only voiced "significant issues" with other members three times (including this one) to my knowledge - once over a heated discussion with Jimbo which dissolved extremely quickly with apologies on both sides. And another when Andy (or 'Z') scoured the internet to find out personal information about djsoss and then posted his findings here merely to humiliate and embarrass him.

As far as my "stupid" and "crude" comment...well, I think I'll not respond much considering the topic of this thread.

By the way, that Erik Estrada was funny and I don't care if you say otherwise.

You have a point here ExRat. I might be guilty of getting involved in a clusterfuck of my own, but everyone was welcome to join the insanity. Perhaps it was too insane and elitist. This was not my intention. Touche, ExRat, touche...

Feel the love! (but I do have to say I didn't post much for a year because I felt a clusterfuck I could not seem to be connected with.)

Can't we all just have a big orgy and feel the love?

What kind of challenge is it for a 40 something man to jump down a 19 year old girls throat? Would you do that in the "real" world?

Hutter, the jumping down the throat part happened only after the 19 year old decided to enlighten the 40 year old man with her wisdom...she obviously was not paying much attention to the posts made here. If she had, she should have known she was in over her head lecturing here. The content in her posts paled in comparison to that of many of the posters here...did she actually expect her simplistic lecturing to go unchallenged?

This is yet another example of somebody spewing on the board without regard for the potential reprisal. You are entitled to your opinion granted, but be able to back it up with more than tears when asked to.

BTW: I wish I had the finesse Hex has shown in her latest posts...beautifully said.

Ah, Hex... I don't say that is wrong that someone comments bad about sth I say... I say it's wrong when done with a lack of respect. Obviously, you didn't get it from my posts.

Mechi, you seem like a bright and articulate person, especially since English is your second language, but I think there is a difference between common courtesy and respect.

IMHO, everyone (with exception of trolls like Andy) deserves common courtesy. Respect has to be earned.

If someone makes a rude response, one that violates common courtesy, it's appropriate to say, "hey, I was responding to your post, don't bring my age, or dick size, or masturbation habits, or urine aroma, etc., into it."

For example, in one of your posts you made a comment about when this site began to be overrun with stupid posts. I disagree with what you said. Under common courtesy, that doesn't give me the right to call you stupid or insult you or tell you to shut up (unless, like Hutter, you asked for it [:D] ). You have a right to an opinion, but I'm not going to respect your opinion, because IMHO you haven't been around here long enough, and the quality of your posts is not good enough (e.g., the "Nobody Likes Me" thread), to give you an ample perspective on the issue.

On a related note, how is it showing respect for others' opinions when you say (to paraphrase) "Until you've studied X, you don't have a right to an opinion on it." (Or, as other posters have said, "you don't know anything about this because you're not a parent.")

For example, I am a lawyer. If folks are going off on a point of law, I may correct a poster and offer a citation if he or she is flat-out wrong, but I would never say that because the poster didn't study law, he or she doesn't have an opinion on a matter of public importance. I might not respect that opinion if it's not reasoned and well-informed (more likely, I wouldn't even read the thread), but the posters have the right to make a post and to receive a courteous correction or refutation.

Again, it doesn't mean you don't have the right to have that opinion. It doesn't mean that I have the right to be rude in disagreeing with you. You're entitled to courtesy. You're not entitled to respect.

Hex: I agree with many of the the things you say on that post but I have to disagree with one (and it's not cuase I don't have respect or courtesy for you but it's because I sth in which I trully believe):
For me, respect is not an age or time affair but it has to do with the conditions that we are all human and that's why we should all have respect for each other. I hope I'm making myself clear, but there's an idea behind this.

In terms of me saying that this site was being ruined.. you have to understand that at the time I was porting that I wasn't feeling very comfortable. And if I'm trying to explain myself now, is because I feel comfortable enough to do so.

I respect you really.. not for your age or for the time at the NWO... but for saying your opinion clearly and explaining it.
I know I can't articulate my thoughts or manage well my emotions at certain times.. it has to do a lot with the life and the conditions in which I live in. I'm not asking for mercy now.. just explaining why I amy not seem clear soemtimes. [:)]

[:D] Mechi, I don't know what the custom is in Argentina, but in the U.S., if a younger woman assures an older woman that she, the younger woman, owes respect to the older woman because of her age, many older women would consider it an insult rather than a compliment! [:D][;)] Fortunately, I am not one of them. [:D] Cheers.
