NAME THAT TUNE Game - Guitar Goodness - Results

Postby Frau_Blucher » Sat Apr 22, 2006 12:08 pm

Well, it's been too long since we've had a Name That Tune. I hope a bunch of you are up for this and we get a nice healthy response. This one is largely guitar-driven New Wave and its successors from 1976 to 2006 - one song for each year.

There's an MP3 linked below with a total of 31 song clips and 2 seconds of silence between each. Just guess the Song and Artist. The year of each is provided. The game is on a 62 point basis (1 point each for title and artist). Download the response form and email it back to me after you're done (my email is in the form). Make sure to include your forum name so I know who you are. The perk for players is that I'll immediately send back the Score and Answer Sheet to each respondent. Please remember NOT to post your responses here!

Here's the link for the response form, right-click to download:

Here's the clips link, right-click to download:
The NTT Guitar Goodness Sampler File

The game will end on Saturday May 6 at 9PM EDT.

Remember, at stake is the eternal adulation of your peers! [:o)]

Yay! It's back! Thanks, Blir. I was wondering just this morning when another Name That Tune would come, so that I could suck at it and bring down the average.

Not to be pissy about this, but why have songs from 1990 to the present.
Radio was/is a mine field of grunge copycats, hiphop goofters, crap artists and
will smith (lowercase on purpose.) Sorry, I don't mean to take it out
on you Blir, but I'm just explaining why my entry stops at 1989.
There's 16 years of bad music out there and I choose not to listen to
any of it, other than the new releases of artists I like, ie:

Cure
Depeche Mode
Stan Ridgway
TheThe
XTC

I get enough new music vibrating at near deafening decibles from
the speakers of cars that crawl through my neighborhood at 3:23 AM.
Some of this crap is even showing up in commercials.

...and I haven't felt so old, in years.

Blir,
I do however appreciate all the hard work you put into the NTT Guitar
Goodness Sampler file and the NTT Video. I apologize if I've put you
off by my banter.

Bueller? Bueller? Just a trickle of responses. Is this a sign that NTT is finally dead and we shouldn't bother anymore???

Perish the thought, Blir! I listened to the NTT for this but, in all honesty, I can name only a handful. Give me another week to do some digging, and I can come up with another handful. Maybe.

GAME UPDATE

With literally a handful of results in , we've got the first update. Me thinks this NTT may have been a bit too tough. The average sits at 41% with '81, '84, and '85 proving to be oddly difficult years...along with the late 90s to 00s too of course. Hope a lot more of you get to chime in regardless. Cheers and thanks.

Remember that the game ends Saturday May 6th at 9PM EDT.

After topping the last one, I wanted to be a good sport and step aside to let other people have a crack at it.

GAME UPDATE - last 24 hours!

Going into the final day of Name That Tune, the average sits at a pretty healthy 49% based laregly on a couple of really good scores. The game ends Saturday May 6th at 9PM EDT. Hope more folks get to play in the final hours. I'll post links to the players for many of the harder tracks.

Sorry, Jim, but I must take offense here. If you haven't heard anything good since 1990, it's due to your lack of initiative to search it out. There's tons of good music out there, from almost any year you can name, you just won't hear it on commercial stereo.

You've fallen into the same trap as lots of people your age. The music was good when you were younger, and it's all crap now.

All I can suggest to you is that you find any issue of The Big Takeover, published about twice a year, and read the hundreds of reviews therein. If you can't find something in there that seems appealing, then you really aren't a music fan.

I'll get one in, but I don't even have the average yet, so I'll listen again.
