I was wanting to ask Stella that same question.

A few observations from a non-vet:

Mike and Blir, I know you don't need (or probably want) any backup from me.

It never ceases to amaze me how the power of anonymity allows people to say and imply unbelievably rude and derogatory things about other people, things that would they would never say in face-to-face encounters. But it happens everyday on the 'net. This Great Santini/Thunderlips character (can't tell the players without a program) seemed to do a very good job of being inflammatory and deliberately pejorative for no reason. Isn't it possible to have a reasoned debate without resorting to such tactics? Or is being deliberately inflammatory the main reason for his being here. I'm not a big net person, but if that isn't the definition of troll, what is?

Stella may in fact be a troll. The difference is that, I can't recall (with one exception to eight6) her/him resorting to mindless name-calling in her posts. The posts may be rhetoric, may even be difficult to follow sometimes, but they aren't aimed to be pejorative.

Hutter, face the fact the Mike is the owner here, and like any owner has the prerogative to adjust, change, or do anything he wants here. He owns it. Also for him to make 2Nu a mod here, I believe signifies his recognition of 2Nu's significant contributions here. 2Nu has indeed been here quite a while. Perhaps 2Nu has earned the right to be heard more here than someone who hasn't posted anything remotely having to do with the main purpose of this board. Again, it's his prerogative.

Mike, from my perspective, you and many others here have made this board a special place where I have learned more about the music I love in two years, than in all the time before. Thank you for your efforts--I hope all this acrimony doesn't keep you from knowing I (and I suspect many others) very much appreciate your efforts.

I have no doubt that I will now be subjected to a variety of insults concerning my sexuality, my ancestry, etc. Considering it will come from someone who hides behind the mask of the Internet, I'll give those comments all the consideration they are due.
I am just curious, as new members "Thunderlips" and "the great santini", why would you join a new wave music forum and start forming opinions on everything but music?
Somehow they happened to "stumble" upon this wonderful forum, and by "luck" came across a few political charged posts. That or a current member showed them the way (invited a troll)...

Here's the deal ... I'm all for having discussions of the sociopolitical variety, but why can't there be a degree of civility and open debate? Last I checked we were all over 21 if not 31! Sheesh![xx(]

You may not agree with someone on a number of issues, but I think we all learn something from anyone who is willing to debate, agree to disagree or at least concede when they are wrong or misinformed. I've, too, have learned a lot from all the debates -- when they are on track at least.[;)]

And lastly, I always find it amusing that people who seek to discredit others using cheap personal attacks rather than some kind of civil discourse only serve to discredit their own opinions. In the end, what's the point? And how many new friends have you gained? Is it a rallying cry for all bullies to join in and kick someone when they're down? I dunno ... but I know it's certainly not in my nature to resort to these kind of tactics.

Politicians, on the other hand ... well, they're fair game![:D]

Very nice post NuWaveRX!

I don't think the point of message board bullies is to impress us, or convince us of anything. It's about feeling so crappy about yourself that you need to put down other people, insult them and be as nasty as possible to make yourself feel good. It's a self-centered activity that only serves that bully.

Aggression has no other point except to make yourself feel powerful - what better place to do it than an anonymous message board where you can say and do the most hateful things? It's abusive behavior that you wouldn't tolerate from a child. Treat them as such.

For someone who is new & just stumbled across the board - they seem to have a lot of information about people...

[clap, clap, clap!!!] NuWaveRx--very well said.

MikeP, I bet ten years ago you never thought your brilliant idea for a new wave website would devolve into this nonsense... Thank you for this phenomenal music resource. I would hate to have it disappear.

Major thanks to the mods for your efforts, as well. It can be an ugly job and you do it with such grace.

Jimbo's gone? Holy crapola! Everytime I take a break from this place, someone disappears. First Kimiii, now Jimbo.

To get this thread back on topic, Bush=most anti-American president since Nixon. Most ineffective since Carter.

Sorry for the long silence. I will try to post more often.

PS - I bumped into Dave Gahan while waiting at a crosswalk in San Fran yesterday. What a new wave moment that was.

Hey beatschool!
I will try to post more often.
Great!

EDIT: You should post more, especially since the subject of Iran is being brought up more often. I remember back when Jimbo tried to get into you with it on the subject of Iran, those were some threads!
