BTW, I'm surprised no one mentioned Violent Femmes: Gone Daddy Gone, Kiss Off, Blister in the Sun, Add it Up. You take your pick, they are all overplayed AFAIAC.

The first Haircut 100 LP was on the whole very bland. Good singles, but the rest of it can easily be binned as a waste of time.

When Nik had his hissy fit and left, the second album was a lot better with great tracks like "Two Up Two Down", "Goldfish Bowl" and "Infatuation". Unfortunately, when the marketing device left so did all the girls that made up a large part of their fanbase. It's a shame as the band's natural market was the adults, rather than the kids and should of been aimed at that direction in the first place.

I have to agree with you on both counts. I think the band made Heyward's songwriting sound better than it actually was, not the other way around.

I think Polydor also made a big mistake by burying "Infatuation" at the end of side two and not (to the best of my knowledge) releasing it as a single.

Just my 2-cents on the tborg issue:

I don't think his comment was so bad that he had to be told off. There were worse remarks from some of the guys and nobody gave a damn. Just check out some of the older threads.

Now to the songs I hate:

Simple Minds - you-know-which-one
Seona Dancing - More to Lose
New Order - BLT

Sooo overplayed that non-new wavers think they're wavers just because they know these songs.

"Cars" by Gary Numan.

Not so much by the song itself, but that the general public, and even a lot of New Wavers see this as his signature song, when it's one of his weakest. Still a good song, but why couldn't "Stormtrooper in Drag" or "Are Friends Electric" have been his "One Hit Wonder"? Maybe I should be thankful that he's remembered at all...

Peter I think you are completely wrong about canadian music.
Martha and the Muffins, Rough Trade, Jane Siberry, Spoons...
All have great music that sounds like no one else.

I do hate safety dance as well, though.
