When have comic book characters made sense? I still don't understand why grown men wear underwear over their pants, with a belt holding up the undies.

Yeah, there are days that I F-N hate my job. Try talking "real world" logic to a fanboy. Might as well be talking to a brick wall.

lolz I finally buckled and updated my account after laying dormant for about a year. Two people I know started talking about it and got it outta me[V] I couldn't say "no" to them, so I gave them my profile name. Ever since then, though, I've been harrassing local yokels from the university[}:)] The shenanigans with those kids is very funny. I swaer I haven't laughed so hard in months. It ended up working for me... and, yes, I have Peter Griffin and George W. as two of my "friends"[:D]

Well? Did any of you watch it? It was very scary. A 6th grade teacher was one of them. I don't expect those with only cats to care, but this is a very serious subject. (oops! forgot the winkie[;)])

I didn't get a chance to see it Philly, but I'm sure it's a sobering reminder of how kids and teens are unwittingly putting themselves out there in the great wide open of cyberspace thinking that it's just their circle of friends viewing this stuff, when in fact there are also all these predators and closet pervs.

I wonder what MySpace is doing about it? Its image is clearly being dirtied more and more with all this bad press. Did they talk about what can be done to make things safer?

I don't know if parents are aware of this, but your local FBI office (if you have one,) has tons of awesome resources on internet predators & safety. I'm pretty sure most counties have local offices, or there would be one near where you live.

They usually have an agent on-site whose job is to go out speak at parent groups & schools about internet safety for free. We used them at work once & they were great. They have a huge national program dedicated to catching these guys. Your average parent has absolutely no clue about the internet or what their kids are doing online.

Look in your phone book!

They just said to make sure you know what your kids are doing on line. EVERY guy that showed up was planning on having sex with a thirteen year old virgin. They were very creepy guys. I guess the show wants to shock parents and kids into being more careful on the internet. It really was sick. And all the guys admitted they have a sickness and can't help themselves.So they won't stop.
I really hope they expand all agencies going after these predators. The 6th grade teacher was the worst. He quit his job to save his students from knowing. I hope he didn't do anything to them.
Parent or not, just keep your eyes open.

For the sake of rational discussion, what are they supposed to do about it? If corps like Yahoo, AOL and MSN aren't doing anything about it, why should MySpace?

Are we going to hold you, MikeP, to a higher standard for filtering out the pervs and sickos?

The internet has opened up a world of possibilities for kids - many good ones, and some very, very bad. As a parent (my kids are younger and still on the leash, figuratively and some times literally) I'm fortunate to still have some control over where they go and what they do on the 'Net.

I have a MySpace account, solely for keeping up with some musicians and bands who post stuff there. (Roger O'Donnell, Duran Duran and John Crawford, formerly of Berlin, to name a few. Oh, and Kevin Federline, the 00's Vanilla Ice, only with a fraction of the talent.) But the whole "invitation to be my friend" thing is so 7th-grade, it makes my head hurt. I was rejected plenty in HS, don't need to boost my self-esteem online.

I watched it again, I've seen them all and I talked to all the kids about it again last night. Tiger is right, what are you really going to do about it and is it really fair to blame the site (although myspace could make some tweaks in my opinion to help)? Hopefully, it will bring this more into the public eye and these sickos will be less likely to attempt this, although so many of the guys they caught said they had seen this on tv before and were a little worried it may be a set up, and they STILL came! Unbelievable.

Cool. Thanks, coop. I'm over watching the idiot box. I don't let my boys watch TV until I screen the shows first. I'm not for censorship, but WTF happened to quality control? I may as well cut off the cable and keep the kids entertained with old school cartoon DVD's, and books. Y'know, those things made of paper with words and pictures that used to entertain kids before Hoppalong screwed things up.

Jeezus, I'm too young to be this old school. I've become my own dad!

You know that my parents let me watch South Park when I was 10.... that explains a whole lot of why I've turned out this way. [:p]
I do believe that books and DVDs are way better than the telly.

I think that they are telling us to watch what are children are doing on the computer. Aside from these sting setups, I guess that aol, friendster and myspace could at least advertise more about the dangers of meeting people on line. The commercial that really scares the kids is the one where a teen age girl has been chatting with a boy on line and finally decides to meet him at the mall. You see her waiting and then a 40 year old fat guy shows up.
