In 100 Years...

This is purely speculative and of course there's no way any of us we'll get to find out (unless medical science has a REALLY big breakthrough), but what popular music artists do you envision will STILL get talked about and listened to in the future?

Honestly I don't see much if anything from the 70's, 80's and 90's surviving into 2104. I think 20th century popular music will be boiled down to a handful af artists, mainly Sinatra, Elvis and The Beatles with maybe a few hardcore rock aficianados here and there who will tout Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, etc. Maybe rock won't even exist?

Even Elvis is a dodgy one because his celebrity has pretty much eclipsed his music so maybe Sinatra and The Beatles in terms of people actually listening to their work.

I was thinking about Bing Crosby the other day, who was a top selling artist for about 25 years but is now known primarily for his recording of "White Christmas" and little else.

While I can't say what artists will surive, I think it's fair to say that The Rolling Stones will still be alive, together and performing, so it's sort of a given they'll be remembered.

I think Otters is the most right. The 20th century was the first one where songs were able to be recorded on a consistent basis.

I believe some music truly is timeless. 50-60 years later people are falling in love with music of Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, and today whole new legions of Beatle fans are evolving, same with the Stones.

I think in 100 years music will be less of a cultural behemoth like it is today. Therefore, I think there will be big interest in old music from the 1930s to now. Since so much music is so bland and corporate driven today, (Ashlee Simpson comes to mine)
