just got off the phone with the guy from Wolftrap in Vienna, VA where the new cars and blondie will be playing their DC show. He seemed to think the show was a double headliner deal, with both acts doing the same length set...he did not know who for certain was to close the show, but had a feeling it would be the new cars. i didn't think it was worth the $42 for shed tickets and might do some lawn tix later. tickets are on sale now for "friends of the wolftrap" and will go sale to the gen public on april 1.

also picked up tix for:

elvis c. sing songs of new orleans
los lonely boys
al jarreau and george benson
lyle lovett
steve miler band (for the wife, wants to relive her prep school days)

By the way, forgetting for a moment that it's the New Cars, I really dig "Not Tonight"!

I'm with you. If they used any other name, I would be in full support of their new work (which is better than most of the music made today). The recycling of new line-ups with old names is my big gripe. I wish I could get over that. They really do have a good line-up and it does sound a lot like the Cars of old.

Yeah, me too. It's been a couple of bad days in terms liking songs I'm morally opposed to. I like the kiddos covering Devo (see the topic on the Not Necessarily New Wave board) and now "Not Tonight". I'm a sucker for bouncy power pop songs.

Having said that, all in all it's very "Carsy". A gallant effort but it aint "The Cars".

I saw Ric Ocasek on TV recently -- I think it was on The Colbert Report, he was asked if there was anything he wanted to "put on the list" and he said Todd Rundgren. Frankly he seemed a bit bitter. I wish Ric had decided to do the tour, then I would have gone to the concert. He obviously could handle the singing, even Ben's songs (please no hate mail, we all loved Ben Orr), but I don't think Ric's solo work is that strong outside the entire Beatitude cd (and that was 1982), and a few songs here and there - Rockaway, Steal The Night, Keep on Laughin', True to You, Emotion in Motion, Hang On Tight... Hang On Tight is an awesome song if you've not heard it.

GH: "Yeah, for awhile. Had Ric come back it would be a whole other story."

ML: Do you know why he chose not to participate?

GH: "I can't say. He's happy producing."

EE: "Ric is very happy producing other bands and making solo albums. One time, he said to me he really loves not being so famous anymore. I don't think he liked being besieged by people and being so recognizable that he couldn't have a normal day out. I think he's enjoying his life now and to my recollection he never really enjoyed touring. He didn't like it and The Cars didn't really tour all that much and we didn't have a reputation for being a great live band and a lot of that had to do with our frontman. There wasn't any communication with the audience... that partnership that's so necessary between the performer and audience to light that spark. We were aloof onstage and barely said `thank you'. Anyway, he just didn't have that great of a time on tour, so he chooses not to."

ML: Why didn't David want to get onboard?

EE: "David isn't in the music business anymore. He owns a restaurant and is happy doing what he's doing and chose not to be involved. It's about comfort level - people have to do what they're comfortable doing and if they are not comfortable being in a band and touring and performing then they shouldn't do it. It's as simple as that, but at the same time it would be unfair to expect Greg and I to fold up and not do it."

Next year, Todd Rundgren (aka Toddy Ramone) will be fronting a Ramones reunion tour, comprised of some journeyman musicians like Jeff Skunk (Skunk Ramone), and the Ramones original drummer, Tommy, along with his replacement Marc on tamborine*. It'll be just like old times!

*Marc will only be available for the first 4 dates of the tour, and Tommy's commitment will last for 8 shows. After that, Tony Thompson (of CHIC fame) will be filling their shoes as "Tony Ramone".

My wife bought me tickets for my birthday and I gotta say- I'm looking forward to it. The last time I saw Blondie was in 1979. The last time I saw The Cars was the Heartbeat City tour and I have never seen Todd before in concert.Yeah, I know it's not the real Cars but I see it as a fun night out with some old friends and a chance to remember the compadres no longer with us.

Buy a ticket or don't buy a ticket - the Earth will still be on it's axis come the dawn.

The song sort of reminds me of ELO II and Pink Floyd after Waters left.

It SOUNDS like them but it really isn't them.

I like Rundgren, but it's hard for me to like the New Cars.
