Thanks heaps for the Yarbrough & Peoples link.

No wonder I couldn't recall the artisis name.

Only had the vaguest memories of this being performed on Solid Gold, complete with hand puppets!!

I've always loved August Darnell & his various incarnations - Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, on up to the awesome Kid Creole & the Coconuts.

Between those two projects, he threw together a studio group called Machine. They had one of the most notorious songs of the disco era - There But For the Grace of God Go I. I guess the idea that a disco song would frame itself as a protest anthem was too much for people. It was banned by radio stations, pulled from stores and eventually re-released with watered down lyrics. I'm suprised people didn't get the message. I remember being mystified why everyone was so upset by it...and I was only 16 or so at the time...
Here's the Hot Tracks remix which removed the endless & repetitive middle part.

On a similar note, Cory Daye was the lead vocalist for Dr. Buzzard and later appeared on several of the Kid Creole albums. She released a great solo album in 79 that mixed swing and disco. I love her voice - it's so different & warm.
Here's Pow Wow (not very swing, but absolutely that tongue in cheek Kid Creole thing is happening.)

And here's a more swing oriented track, Green Light:

Thanks Wolvie!
I didn't have any Cory Daye & I love Dr. Buzzard's & Kid Creole.
I love Jazz-Swing inspired Disco such as I Remember Yesterday by Donna Summer.
