Also enjoy both a great deal, though quite different in sound. Now, as for solo works, for me it is John Foxx hands down. I think his solo work is the best material he ever did, while Midge Ure's solo work, with the exception of a few songs, was not nearly as good as his time with Ultravox. Just my opinion of course.

I'd stack Foxx's three strong Ultravox albums against the two strong Ure ones (Vienna and Rage in Eden) and Ure's few strong tracks on their later pakages to give Foxx the edge. I always enjoyed both, but they are tough to compare.

Well as far as the poll goes Im surprised by Foxx is hanging in there with over half of Ures votes ---- I thought it was going o be more like 3 to one.....

I chose Midge Ure. I liked Ultravox better than Ultravox!

John Foxx was better as a solo artist. I love his song "Europe (After the Rain)"

I loved John Foxx era Ultravox!, only to discover them just as Foxx split the baand. I saw Ure wwith the boys at Hurrah in New York before Vienna was released and thought it passable, but not great. When Vienna caame out, i bought it, listened to it, liked bits of it but it always seemed way too maudlin and forrced. Foxx had brains and a real point of view. Ure is a pompous git. I liked the Neil Diamond comment above. Spot on.

Since I haven't seen it mentioned, all of the Foxx era Ultravox! albums are being re-released with bonus tracks in the coming months. More things to re-buy.

Two of my most precious pieces of vinyl are the original releases of the first two Ultravox albums.
While they had some good songs, the Midge Ure version pales in comparison.
