Im trying to add to my new wave collection- I have most of the Rhino "Just Cant Get Enough" series, and I really like their song choices, but I was wondering what other wothwhile comps you experts might recommend me searching for. I also have a lot of new wave and power pop albums, but I was hoping for more "bang for the buck" through another great compilation. Thanks in advance- I really appreciate the help.
I'm new to this forum and this place seems really great!

Unfortunately, there's not much to recommend. Most new wave compilations usually use most of the same songs, mostly the ones that hit the top 40. I lost count of the numerous collections I've bought that had "I Ran" on them.

It sounds like what you need is for some of the regulars here to send you some custom cd-r's. I can put together a few electronic New Wave cd-r's for you, and there's others here who have their preferences for certain new wave genres (power pop, new romantic, italo disco, etc). Throw me a mailing address (just go to the profile pages) and I'll send some out to you.

Anyone else want to pitch in? Of course y'all do!

Wow that would really be great! I am having such a tough time tracking this stuff down, and Im getting the impression that even if I had a big budget at hand, I couldnt find a lot of this stuff to purchase any way.

Buy used.

Of course, you really have to live in a big city for that to be really effective. I usually go hog wild buying everything in sight when I find stores that sell used CDs for $5.00 or less. Amazon's marketplace has some good finds at well.

Rhino's "Just Can't Get Enough" (1-15) is a great series.

Most of the holes can be covered with Oglio's "Richard Blade's Flashback Favourites" (1-6).

You will get a lot of duplicates but win a few gems by adding the "Living in Oblivion" series.

Most of the songs on these series are one-hit wonders and oither artist with only a few hits so sometimes their the only CD-based availability.

For artists with more a extensive catalogue, go for full-length CD releases and best ofs.

I really like the Richard Blade series. Most of the cuts are extended play.

Antler Subway's "Club Class-X" Comps were the best out there by far. Very difficult to find these days, but well worth it if you can find them. These comps have alot of exclusive 12 inch cuts, they were a little harder edged and contained alot of European NW acts. You have to look on Ebay for them, but they are there, and they also sound really good.

Fearing that this is not what you have in mind, I recommend that you buy a record player and shop at places like Goodwill and flea markets for vinyl. I have developed a great collection that way.

Get the Rhino "DIY" series. And make sure to start with "Mass Ave.!"

I can't believe no one has mentioned the Hardest Hits series. I know Volume 1 is very tough to get a hold of, but I think Vols 2 through 5 are still readily available.

There are some relatively good compilations released in the Philippines like those 2: Can't Get Enough of the 80's - Original Artists, Vol1 & Vol2. 2CD's each with 37 tracks. The real price is about $8 brandnew.

Vol1 doesn't include all the tracks but I can provide them if U are interested since I have that CD.

Anyway in my opinion, for someone starting from scratch, compilations are just a way to discover bands. From there, one could buy the best of, as mentioned earlier, of his/her favorite artists and then the albums...
