Environmentalists Against Windpower...

Postby Frau_Blucher » Thu May 11, 2006 11:10 pm

No, not the Dolby song...actual wind power:

"Some environmentalists said the spinning blades could kill countless rare birds that migrate through the area each year"

Um...if they're countless...well, you know what I'm saying. [}:)]

This just smacks of people with too much time on their hands looking for a complaint. Like the jerk sueing the baseball team for not getting a bag on Mothers Day Bag Day. AAAAAHHHH!!!! [:(!]

Why not just put a safety screen around the blades like this:

You are probably correct, we may also dislodge some cave dwelling insects that they could bitch about.

Between the 'don't upset the natural habitat' wonks and the NIMBY self interest groups who don't want offshore wind farms 'spoiling their beachfront view' , I'm ready to bang my head against the wall.

Perhaps they're rare for a reason. If they are stupid enough to fly into a giant fan, then that might explain their rarity. Simple Darwinism. All these truly countless far from rare birds around here got smart enough to fly away when I come at them with my car. That's why there's so many of them.

Yeah, Darwinism. I'm all for it. If we make the world idiot-proof then the world will be full of idiots. And they will reproduce...

This is a great thread because I'm way into saving the planet. These people suck. I'm with you guys, alternative energy at all costs. Set up the turbines. Whats better, a few dead birds or paying tons of money for energy based on focil fuel that kills the enviroment anyway? I don't understand this world. The people in my area are setting up antenas for cell phones on roofs everywhere. I think there should be wind turbines on roofs but nooooooooo.

My environmentalist friends, you can't have it both ways.

This has been a topic here on Long Island, NY, too, with proposals to erect wind turbines in the Atlantic miles off the southern shores.

Opponents have complained about degrading the view of the horizon to the south. Oh, the insufferable pain! Here come the aesthetics police. (Well, it is always about 'property values' around these parts, after all.)

Poor little environmentalists. They fail to understand that until humanity suffers a drastic reduction in population, and goes back to living in caves and eating berries, we will never stop having a negative effect on the environment--even the measures undertaken with good intentions have an effect.
