Did you fall in love with any particular album AND its cover art? Did you ever pick up an album solely based on the fact, "well, the cover looks cool and looks like it might be my type of music?"

Me, age 14 or 15, standing in some little cool record shop in quaint, artsy New Hope, Pennsylvannia, scratching my head and wondering why most of the Cocteau Twins LPs don't have song listings. This irritated the hell out of me, but I was determined to walk out of the shop with at least one good Cocteau record. The question was… which one?

I picked the prettiest one.

I forever became addicted to all Cocteau Twin releases during the 80s, not just for their sound but also for their gorgeous sleeves. Vaughan Oliver, the designer, became my hero. The Pixies, Wolfgang Press, Dead Can Dance, This Mortal Coil… all those designs were just so amazing. 4AD is catalog of eye candy, not just good music.

Anybody with similar loves or lusts for album, tape, CD, or box set cover?

I absolutely love "Reach The Beach" by The Fixx. I have that one hanging up in my apartment now.

I also love practically every album and single cover by New Order.

By contrast from the 4AD stuff, New Order and Joy Division were very minimalist and had very bold typography. Love that OMD's first album too (same guy, Peter Saville, designed it).

I have always loved the cover of Ministry's "With Sympathy" album.
Even though Al has disowned ever making that record.

How is New Hope these days? Do you still live there? I used to go there alot when I lived in the area. Is Havana's still around? That was a great outdoor bar/restaurant.
