Alot of people don't seem to like the instrumental. I kind of like some of them. A bit of repose during an album, hm? I so totally dig The Samurai In Autumn by the Pet Shop Boys. It's chill out and dance at the same time. Very mature, sexy...palatable. I love it so much I could eat it with a lovely, Old World, fine wine.

Yeah , I like a good instrumental. There are many I like but I think one of favorites would be Elegia (the full 17:30 minute version) by New Order .Good song to kick back and listen to after a long day at work.

WHoa!! Tom D. ..on what album/12" is that found? Ive never heard of that version, is it a boot?

Rotator,I found it on Lime Wire a while back. The info I got with it listed it from the album "Retro Disc V" from the year 2002. If I ever figure out how to use "you sent it",I'll post it.

Hmmmm----It does sound legit ---I remember that box set...well ---now Im on a mission...by the way, another really simple file sending link (hint hint)is thus:

www.mytempdir.com .......very self explanitory...just browse your computer ---find the mp3 and upload it...works better than usendit...

I need that track.

Instrumental versions of NW songs are a great opportunity to sing them yourself with no backing and find out you sound like crap [:I]

A couple of instrumental pieces that I quite like are:
Boxcar - Boiling Point
The Album Leaf - Vermillion
Air - Alone In Kyoto (mostly instrumental, there are some very minor vocal parts, I would call them blips more than anything)

One of my favorite new wave/no wave groups has always been The Raybeats, who are totally instrumental. I've listened to their album Guitar Beat a couple times a month for twenty years and never get sick of it.

I'd even go out on a limb and say that a good instrumental might be more difficult to create than a song with a vocal. An instrumental has to grab and hold your attention without the meaningful lyrics, aural appeal, and charismatic presence of a person singing, whereas sometimes a song with a vocal is simply a bunch of instruments playing a few chords to prop up the vocal. But an instrumental band is probably not going to hit it big because there's no charismatic frontman or woman for the media and public to latch onto.

And Marv, I hear ya on The Samurai in Autumn being a great tune, but my version has vocals. Do you have an instrumental version?

I often listen to it mixed in with a bunch of other tracks and the vocal bits were cut out. Sorry, my bad [V] I forgot the actual album version has vocals. But they're more like flourishes. Samurai might as well be an instrumental. Actually, there *should* be an instrumental version. Quick, somebody phone the Pet Shop Boys [:p]

Yeah, it's definitely more of an instrumental than a vocal song. There's only one line of lyrics sung a few times (and a strange and puzzling lyric, at that), but the song could very well stand alone without it.

My favorite instrumental of ALL TIME....Simple Minds had some great ins. tracks early on...EPIC sounding shit.
